Anyone here take Seasonique?

I'm going to my OB on Wednesday to discuss BC with him... I can't use the Nuvaring or Yaz b/c in the 3rd week my body goes into "labor" where I have contactions, diahrrea and vomiting b/c the pill tricks my body into thinking I'm pregnant. I think this might work for me b/c then I would only have this side effect every 3 months instead of every month... those that use it-what do you think of it?

Re: Anyone here take Seasonique?

  • Hated it! I loved Seasonale pre-pregnancy and was told this was the improved version so it was even better. I gave it three packs (9 months) and basically dealt with breakthrough bleeding the entire time. I know some others have done really well on it though, so it's one of those things that varies person to person.

  • I used Seasonal before DS#1 and took Seasonique before this pregnancy.  I love them, just for the convienence of having a period once every 3mo. I didn't have any horrible side effects like weight gain or emotional stuff, nor did I have any breakthrough bleeding.  But I was basically doing the same thing on regular bc's - just skipping the placebo pills and starting a whole new pack but letting myself have a period once every few months.  Same thing.
  • At first I liked it. The first couple packets I had break through bleeding at around the 9th week. But sometimes that would last a couple days and it was almost like having a light period. When my body finally adjusted to it and I didn't have break throughs, the periods themselves were extremely heavy - nearly as bad as having a d&c. After about a year and a half I decided to go off of it.

  • loved it, except for the migraines I got during my period week. got pg frst cycle off seasonale with dd, have been trying 6 months after seasonique
  • I take Quasense which is the generic of Seasonale.  I like it a lot but there is an adjustment period with the breakthrough bleeding.  The best tip I got was that once breakthrough bleeding started, to stop the pills, have your period and then go back on them in a week.  It took a few cycles but finally my body adjusted.  If you often forget to take the pill though then this one is not for you because just missing it once can lead to breakthrough bleeding (at least for me).  There is a girl on the MM board that said she takes one of these bc's and only has her period once a year.
