3rd Trimester

EDD by conception date

I know this is silly since babies can take different amounts of time, BUT is anyone going by their conception date instead of LMP?

By LMP, my EDD is 9/13 but by conception it is 9/9/09 (I used the calculator on amazingpregnancy.com) I know it's not a big difference, but I just wondered if anyone is considering it. ?:)

Re: EDD by conception date

  • My cycle was super long when we TTC and actually I conceived 2 weeks after a chemical pg so things were all weird like that.  Basically, I made up my LMP and it happened to correspond with the first U/S to calculate the gestational age.  At this point, I figure the baby will come when he is ready so it could be 8/15 give or take a couple weeks. :)

  • I think about this a lot since my conception date is set in stone... down to the hour thanks to IVF.  Since traditional dates are based on LMP, I often wonder how exact EDD are, anyway.  I mean, some people have 30 day cycles and some have 50 day cycles.

I asked my MW about whether they consider induction earlier with IVF pregnancies since they are sure on the conception date, and she said no.  So I guess the bottom line is that babies are rarely born on their due dates, no matter when that is!

  • Since my OB isn't considering it, I didn't see the point.
  • I was charting, so I "knew" when I Oed. At first, I was using the EDD THAT gave me, but after discussing it with my midwife, I don't. I had an early u/s (12 weeks because my usual cycle length was 45 days) to determine EDD and that's when they pinpointed my EDD for 9/26... they just kept it at 9/24 based on LMP. Of course, my chart for the month we conceived is all wacked out....

yup. i know i didn't o until cd 36, so going off lmp was way off. my doc didn't agree with me until every u/s proved me right.

My conception date has matched my EDD since the first u/s I had. If I was going off LMP it would be off.

  • me EDD with LMP is 9/11 mt conception due date is 9/16 but with DD my LMP due date was 10/16 and my conception due date was 10/26 - I delivered her on the LMP due date. Its all relative. I think of it more as a due range more than a due date. HTH

  • I don't put much stock in EDD anyway, just tell people that I'm due mid-August, although some get frustrated when I don't give them an actual DATE!

    In anycase, here are mine:

    Conception: August 15

LMP Calculator here and webMD: August 16

    OB: August 18

Don't know how the OB's is different from every other calculator I've found, but like I said before it really doesn't matter b/c he's going to come when he wants to!

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • I ovulated WAY late (like almost 2 weeks late), so my LMP is totally inaccurate. My EDD by ovulation/conception is 9/9 and from my first u/s is 9/14. The MW goes with the 9/14 date to give the baby more time to arrive before he is "late."
  • I was charting and know I O'd late. Plus every U/S I've had has proven MY O date. But Dr is still going by LMP. So just to keep from being confused at the Dr I started going by the 16th instead of the 21st of July. But now that I'm approaching my LMP EDD this week and no baby I'm reminding myself I'm really only 38w 6d and not 39w 4d.

The bad thing is Dr is wanting to induce on the 22nd which she thinks is a week over due but I know it's only a day. Ugh! It can get tricky.

  • MY EDD is 8/3 by LMP and by conception (I was charting) is 8/4. They are so close so it really doesn't matter. I am using 8/3 just because thats what the Dr. is going by. I never did change my ticker on here...oh well its only 1 day difference. Full term for me today Smile

  • My cycles were really long and not reliable, when I told my Drs that I knew my Ovulation date because I had been using the CBEFM they used that to set my EDD.  It seemed to me like the O date was more reliable, but must people don't know it.
