My DH and I plan on putting our baby into a part time in home childcare facility. However, after the story I heard last night I think I will be extra cautious and double check everything before I pick the in-home provider. This is the story I heard...
One of my good friends' sister just had a baby about three months ago. Her older two daughters are in an all day preschool during the week and so she decided to put the baby into an in-home childcare that a friend of hers recommended.
Well, the lady who was watching the children had someone report her to the licensing agency for in-home childcare and when they came to investigate this is what they found...
It turns out that this lady was not supposed to have more than 3 children at a time in her care and by the time the licensing agency had found all the children the count was at 14 children. Now, I say found because this lady hid all the children except for 3 of them. She hid the older ones in her neighbor's backyard, two younger ones in a closet and 6 (yes, 6) infants IN THE STORAGE SHED IN HER BACKYARD!!!!!!
Now, this is in Texas where the high has reach 100 degrees by 10:30 AM for the last 20 days and the shed is not air conditioned! Oh yeah, and my friend's niece was one of the babies found in the shed. Now, all of the children are ok and the lady is in jail on several counts of child endangerment, but I thought I should tell you all this story.

Ok, so I found this article online about the incident if yall want to read it. The thing that shocks me is that the people would not let parents see the inside of the house. I don't think I would make the choice to drop off my child somewhere that I wasn't allowed to go in and see the house. To me that just screams that something is being hidden. Also, I would want to make sure that everything in the house looks clean and non-hazardous.
Abinormal,
In case you haven't checked this site for Texas - it shows every childcare provider's violation list. I used it last week to pick my daycare.
I heard this story and it make me weary of in-homes!
