3rd Trimester

Turn, baby, turn

My LO is breech and, obviously I want him to turn so I don't have to have a C-Section. I have heard of different exercises I could do to encourage it, but lately I have this terrible fear that the cord is wrapped around his neck. It doesn't have any reason for it, it's just a fear.

But, now I am afraid to do those exercises and have him flip if he does have the cord around his neck. Is that weird?

Re: Turn, baby, turn

  • I know that you didn't ask for this... but I had my transverse baby turn last week by going to a chiropractor that does the Webster's Technique. The chiro also made a lot of my back pain go away. If you really want your LO to turn, I would totally recommend you find a chiro that does this. It's awesome!

I can understand your fear about the cord, but it is rare. All babies should turn head down anyway.

  • My DD didn't flip until 37 weeks.. I think most will flip on their own by 36 weeks.. hopefully yours will too!  I didn't try anything and it happened on it's own.  GL!
  • No advice about getting baby to turn, but I share your "for no real reason fear" that the cord is wrapped around her every single time she  starts her spastic movements! Especially lately, since she's been starting to be very active around 4:30 a.m., which is out of her normal activity pattern thus far. The first night she was moving around that early in the morning, it was big, jerky movements, and I was very scared something was wrong! Now, it's her nightly routine to wake up and play for an hour or so around that time.
  • My sister's first daughter was breach until 4 days before she gave birth (vaginally).  It just happened on its own, so don't lose hope!
  • Mine turned at 36 weeks.  Keep doing the exercises though. If the cord is wrapped or too short, then the baby simply won't turn or won't be able to (I believe that is how my doctor explained it), but it doesn't hurt to try.  Good luck!
  • I'm 37 weeks, in the same boat and anxious for her to turn. Doc says if she doesn't do it on her own by my appt Tues, we need to schedule and ECV for Wed or a C-section if she doesn't turn by week 39.

I've tried a couple of the exercises suggested by my doc - she said the baby will either turn or not turn and that I have lots of fluid for her flipping (so I'm not too worried about cord issues just yet). I've tried being on all fours with my chest lower than butt and gently swaying my hips  for 10-15 min (on an empty stomach while the baby's active) . . . it's uncomfortable, but it's the main exercise the doc suggested. I've also spent quite a bit of time in the pool, and though that lifts her out of my pelvis (minimizing those kicks to my bladder!), she hasn't turned yet. I've read about the chiro procedure, but I'm a little scared of chiro's . . . I'm thinking if the ECV doesn't work Wed, I may try acupuncture. I'm going to try a bag of frozen peas near her head and get hubby to talk to her bottom tonight :)
