1st Trimester

Weddings, parties, etc.

I am definitely a person who likes to have some drinks at parties, BBQs, weddings etc and it is SO hard to be one of the only sober people at these events!  Today I went to a wedding and me and my Dad were the only sober ones amongst my family.  I realized how annoying buzzed people are now too.  I know it'll get easier but I'm only 6 weeks in!

Re: Weddings, parties, etc.

  • We're having a large BBQ next weekend with a ton of my husband's family, and these always involve tons of beer, and they find it incredibly funny to tease me about not being able to drink.  I may end up "accidentally on purpose" spilling something on them!

  • The nice thing? Bring your camera and snap pictures of them doing stupid things ONLY drunk people would do.. Then you can be like 'Oh, I may not be able to drink, but at least I WON'T DO THIS!!' :) Of course, in a fun way, not in a Devil way.
  • I have a confession. Friends threw me a wonderful 30th birthday party and poured me this massive 20 oz apple martini.  They have no idea that my hubby and I were trying and succeeded! So when they were in a different room I'd pour a little of the drink out. Within an hr, the drink looked finished and they were offering me another round.  LOL  They all were so buzzed, they had no clue I wasn't drinking.  Haha

I hear you.  For me, the not drinking in these situations has been the hardest thing to get used to.

My cousin went to 9 weddings when she was pregnant.  9!!  I don't think I could have handled that.

  • I just got my BFP yesterday, so I'm really early on and we don't want to share our news just yet. But...next weekend we're flying out to CA for a good friend's wedding. It's near wine country, and they picked out all the wine especially for the wedding, and my friends that will be there know that I LOVE wine. I have no idea how I'm going to get around it! I can't easily try to fake it by drinking something that looks like a mixed drink, because they know I'm a beer and wine girl. DH and I talked about it and kind of decided that we'll do our best, but if they figure it out, so be it. Any other suggestions?

  • I'm one that always has a drink in my hand. Surprisingly it hasn't been hard for me yet. Every once in awhile I day dream about the ice cold taste on my mouth on a hot day.

I've also noticed how just about every song on the radio is about beer/drinking (country mostly).

  • I totally understand! I was in my friends wedding a few weeks ago and it was a whole 3 day shin-dig with a lot of drinking with her loud, NY based, Italian family. I had a blast, but it was kind of annoying being around everyone and their brother drinking constantly for 3 days straight. Oh well, such is being pregnant :)
  • We just got back from a week at an all-inclusive in Cancun---EVERYONE around me was drinking (a little too much if you ask me).  Doing without alcohol is not a big deal to me, because I very rarely drink anyway, but I know what you mean.  It was a little odd ordering 7-UP all day in the pool, but I kind of got a laugh out of the drunk people around me.

  • I hardly ever drank before I became pregnant, so it's been really easy for me to hide it with friends and family so far...
