Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How many bibs will I need?

So far I have 6 bibs - I feel like it's not enough but I really have no idea!  I feel like I will need a few more than normal since I don't have a washer/dryer in my apartment so I don't have the option to just throw them in the wash whenever I feel like it.. I just don't know what a good amount is.

TIA!

  • In the beginning we didn't use them much, but now we go through at least 2 a day!

  • We have like 20 bibs...we have to do baby laundry every other day because DS spits up allllll the time. Of course every baby is different.

  • Like eleventynine. Seriously.
  • Lots, just not right away. I have a friend that had her kid wear one every day, all day from day one. That was a little excessive. DD went through a drooling spurt around 2mo and again about 3mo and I had her wear one or two a day then, but not any now.

I do think though that when real teething begins, we'll need a bunch. Oh, and I don't like laundry, so I only do it once a week.

  • I have yet to put a bib on my baby. My mom says you really don't need them until later on when they start drooling (i.e. teeth coming in, etc).

  • We started using them at about 4 weeks old. ?We go through about 10 a day. ?Once the baby hits the teething stage and starts drooling, you'll want to keep a bib on at all times.....or have to change clothes A LOT!!!

A bib tip for you......Carter's makes heavier weight bibs called Teether bibs and Drool bibs, and these rock....every other bib I have used soaks through to the clothing. ?They sell them at BRU. ?I have like 20 of these, and go through all of them every 2 days. ?

  • In the beginning you won't need many - but we go through probably 2 - 4 a day between spit up, drool, etc.  We have a ton now just so I'm not doing laundry everyday.

Oh, and the ones with the plastic backs?  They are amazing.  Don't even bother with the cutesy ones, they don't absorb anything.

  • Another thing I should mention about the Carter's bibs....they snap rather than close with velcro which is good if your baby has sensitive skin.

Ditto to practically every poster!!  DS has reflux and spits up a ton, plus he is drooling a lot because he's teething.  We can easily go through 5 bibs a day.  I'd say we have about 15-20 right now or else I'd be doing laundry every day just to have a clean bib.  Definitely have a few to start out with..after you see how much of a spitter/drooler your baby is then you can buy more.

  • We have about 15-20, and use 2-3 a day since day 1. I suggest getting some for when LO eats, and use them only for this, and then using certain onces for LO just to wear with their outfit when they are having a bad drool day. We didn't think of this until just now... I just went out and bought a pack just for drooling/teething periods, because all her other bibs have been stained yellow from eating and look really bad. I hated putting them on her when we would go out and stuff.
  • Also - you won't need this right away.. but around 4-6 months once your LO starts on solids I really suggest using the plastic bibs. All you do is take it off and hose it down in the sink and you don't get the cloth ones all stained with food, and doesn't leak through onto the LO's outfit also.
  • We have yet to use any bibs.

yes, other brands make them doo, but Carters are very nice.  they have a rubber/plastic layer between the fabric to make them not absorb tot he other side!
