On Saturday, July 4th, I woke up at 3:30 am with spotting and contractions. I was concerned because I had never bled before and was having a lot of fluid loss, so I wasn't sure if I had broken my water. DH and I went to the hospital and spent two hours in triage. Contractions were still irregular, water had not broken, so we were sent home to sleep and rest up with the hope that we would be back later that day.
We went home and slept, then walked everywhere around the neighborhood. We went back into the hospital when contractions were five minutes apart. I was still able to talk through them, but they were getting consistently stronger. Unfortunately, no progression. The triage nurse sent us out again to walk.
And we walked and walked and walked. We spent a total of 3 hours climbing stairs, walking the neighborhood and my contractions kept getting worse and worse. They were almost 2 minutes apart, but was making minimal progress - only 3-4 cms.
We were finally admitted at 7pm and started hard laboring. I used the jacuzzi (the best thing ever) and started to feel better. They broke my water at 11 and started the epidural. THANK GOD for the eipdural.
I was finally compete at 2:30 and we waited for her to drop... started pushing at 3:30 with only DH and our nurse there. It was amazing. DH is INCREDIBLE and was my rock the whole time.
I had minimal tearing and the stitches were terrible, but my little Maylie Alden is a dream.
We've had issues with latching and breastfeeding and engorgement. PLEASE reach out to support networks if you need them - I almost gave up multiple times this week and have cried more than I would like to admit, but we're finally feeding (ALL THE TIME) successfully and she's starting to gain weight.
Here's a picture of our little super hero!
