My Dh is being a cry baby (TMI)

He had suregery on wed and was told he would be constipated because of the pain meds. He has been whining since yesterday that he cant poop. He said it comes out and the far end must be huge and it gets sucked back it! Gross I know! I told him if he is that worried about it go to the ER and let them dig it out! He gets mad at me because I laugh because he is whining so much about it.

Any suggestions to help him poop? He is getting on my nerves now!

He tried a stool softener yesterday, didnt work.

Stool softeners take time and multiple doses. If he is that uncomfortable try a laxative.

It may take a day or so for the stool softener to kick it - it's not immediate. Have him try two stool softeners and have him eat some oranges.

I suggest you tell him its mind over matter (lol...) and if he thinks his hole is small, it won't be able to get the big clump out. If he thinks his hole will grow to the size it needs to to get the big clump out, it will come out. That being said, I'd also give him some rubber gloves and see if he can help himself along with some petroleum jelly. That, and eating apples - skin on.

I used a glass of prune juice with a few tablespoons of blackstrap molasses mixed in. Totally natural and (really!) effective overnight.

Don't give up on the stool softeners. It takes a while for them to kick in (a couple days). It may not fix the immediate problem but it should help in the long run.

Plus, they are cheap and harmless.

I had this same problem (coupled with hemmies) after my c-section (TMI I know, sorry) from taking the pain meds and I tried everything. What I found to be effective, is the fleets glycerine enemas, its a small amount of liquid glycerine (like 20 cc's) and its inserted like an enema, it softens the stool already down in the rectum and allows it to pass easier. Also, buy some Miralax (over the counter gentle laxative/stool softener that used to be prescription) and have him take it daily for the next 4 days. I am still dealing with this, 4 weeks pp and the miralax was my only saving grace!
