I bought a few cloth options and was wanting to start washing. What detergent do you recommend? I looked at those lists but it seems like I would have to special order the detergent -- is there anything good available at Target/Walmart? tia!
7th generation gentle (rated 4 stars on pinstripes and polkadots) is at target. While you are there, get the California baby diaper rash cream (4 stars as well) you need special diaper cream for cd.
Yes! What got some of the best reviews and recommendations from every CD website I've gone to and msg boards is the Purex free and clear. I got a ginourmous bottle of it at Target for around $9.
You can look at this site for other recommendations... but the Purex got the same rating as the others that are far more expensive and harder to get (WF, etc which isn't that close to me)
Have you checked with the 0-6 or 6-12 month boards? They might have a better idea. You may want to see what the manufacturer of the diaper recommends too. Or call your local diaper store & find out what they sell & ask them if there is another brand that is comparable to that at a lower price.

Oh my goodness! I was wondering if you were going to make it because the dates are so close! Oh well, having a baby trumps winging, just tell your DH that How scary to be having contractions early, too (I saw your other post). That is my fear, as well, that I won't know I'm going into labor. They keep asking me if I'm having contractions, and all I can tell them is that I don't think so. Good luck with everything!
We are using all free and clear. There's a lot of good info on the eco-friendly family board about this, too, if you have questions!
I already prepped mine, but I can't speak to the absorbency, but the owner of the store where I got them recommended Charlie's Soap or All free and clear, and that was more accessible to me. I did notice that there were some natural detergents in the organic section at Kroger... maybe check there for something if you want it to be more natural? The only thing is, even some of the more natural ones aren't recommended.
Purex Free and Clear is currently on sale at Odd Lots for $3-5 for a 56 load bottle. Its a good price. I bought 10 bottles (It's usually 5-10 for a bottle).
I had to order nelli's from amazon.com but I REALLY want the special "All Free & Clear?Military". It doesn't have the optical?brighteners?the normal All does, but you can only get it from?military?commisionaries. My dad works on a base as a civilian so I am hoping he can track some down for me.
I have heard about people using stuff from the store and having it work but as I do more research it says this can cause rashes and also make the diaper less?absorbent?so I'll use the special junk.

Thanks for the info - I didn't know that!

Good luck!
I use seventh gen or Mrs. Meyers - our BRU carries both. I never use dreft since it's scented, and the natural stuff does fine cleaning.
I also keep some of the OxiClean free n clear spray and laundry additive on hand - great for the blowouts/stains
