Abnormal Swelling?! What Can i do?

As of the 3rd Trimester, The Nurse Practicioner measured the Fundal Height of the Uterus, and it is measuring bigger.  For Example, I was at 32 weeks, and measured out to 38 inches.  She is worried that there is abnormal swelling in the abdomen and excess water.  If so, how can i reduce the swelling and the excess water? I walk practically every night, and it don't seem to help sometimes.  What else can i do?

  • Ask your doctor! Seems like something s/he'd be better able to advise you on...

  • If they were concerned about the swelling, I would think they would have talked to you about it.  Drink lots and lots of fluids and don't go crazy with salty food (though you don't really want to limit your sodium).  If your feet/ankles are swollen, get them above your heart.

Try not to worry too much yourself if your doctor isn't worried.

  • Did then mean that you were retaining water weight?  Or that there was an abundance of Amniotic fluid?  Those are two very different things.

If its AF, then you can't really do anything about it.  Either way, you need to ask your OB what his/her suggestions are to you.

  • You weren't given instruction as to how to handle?  If not, then apparently they are not worried about the situation.  Maybe a cool shower?  My swelling tends to go down with one.  Good luck.

  • ask your dr.
