Pregnant after a Loss

Tell me not to worry...

Early pregnancy was filled with worry for me.  I have had 5 m/c's and this pregnancy started with spotting most every day.  Sometimes pink but mostly brown.  Then around 8 weeks or so it all stopped and I haven't had a single episode of spotting since.  It's been wonderful!  Until last night...

I have had 3 ultrasounds and every time the baby has looked great.  My latest was on Monday when I was 12 weeks and baby was moving all over, NT looked great, and the hb was a strong 166 bpm.

We had stopped having sex early on since it would sometimes make me spot but since about 9 weeks we have been having it regularly (or as regularly as I can manage with as tired as I am) and not once have I spotted after.  Then last night we had sex and when I went to the bathroom after there was lots of pink.  It let up after a few wipes and was just a small amount after that.  This morning it's a very scant brownish pink but it's still there and now I've got that freaked out feeling back.

I hate to call the doctor since I am kind of between doctors.  I just let them know I was done at the office and had my records transferred to my new OB in the state we are moving too.  If it were a realy emergency (heavy red blood, clots, cramping, etc) I'd definitely call but really right now I'm just looking for some reassurance that it's probably just from sex.

I know that nobody can tell me for sure and this is no substitute for a doctor.  I know deep down I'm fine... I just am trying to control my head that spins out of control at the sight of any amount of spotting.

Thanks girls!

Re: Tell me not to worry...

  • are you on progesterone if so that can cause spotting since it irritates the cervix a bit. if not there is so much extra blood flow down there that sex even if you are being super gentle can cause spotting just because. honestly call your doctor regardless of how much or l=how little of an emergency it is its their job to be there for you and given your history i'm sure they will understand.  i always remind them when i used to call "sorry but after so many loses i'm terrified" 99% of the time they would be fine with it.

  • I am on progesterone but I'm weaning off and am down to only one pill a day.  And I've been on it for 12 weeks with no spotting after sex in the past month on it at twice a day (the pills not sex...lol).

I'll call if it picks back up.  Right now I think they would either tell me to keep an eye on it or possibly want me in for an u/s which I can't do today.  I'd have to go to the hospital and I have my 1 and 3 year olds with nobody to watch them (DH is at work 2 hours away).

But, if it does get heavier at all I'll call right away.  Right now it seems to be tapering off and it is very, very scant.

  • I would call if it picks back up.  I've had spotting and it is always so scary, but an u/s can put your fears at ease.

You couldn't leave your kids w/ a neighbor or someone?

Try to relax this weekend.  Put your feet up!!

  • I tried to call but it seems to be just about stopped anyway.  They were closed and unless it's an emergency it said to call back Monday.  Hopefully it's long gone by then or I will call.

No, there really isn't anyone I can leave them with just for a "peace of mind" checkup.  In an emergency yes.  I don't really know our neighbors very well and most are out anyway since it is the weekend.  My parents would come if I needed them or the IL's but they are a bit of a drive and I think I'm ok.
