yes, i will flame you. because it was crazy obnoxious.

imagethejennigirl:

At the risk of being flamed, THAT would never happen with a CD.  I know.  I used paper diapers with my first 2, and CD w/ #3.

Sorry you have to clean the carseat.

Confused

this is along the lines of "i'm sooooooooo glad i do _________ because this NEVER happens to meeee!!  i'm sooooooooo much better than yoooooou!!!!!!!"

Re: yes, i will flame you. because it was crazy obnoxious.

  • Yeah, and this is a great response AFTER THE FACT...maybe she should go back in time and switch to CD because it NEVER happens with CD!!!

Whatevs - I use disposables and it's never happened to us yet, (knock on wood)...as if the OP didn't feel bad enough as it is!

Who even says this kind of thing?!  I wish a HUGE blowout on the 'holier-than-thou" poster of this absurdity.

  • I have cleaned many many blowout out of the bouncy seat and swing and carseat. CLOTH DIAPER BLOWOUTS.

    They happen.

  • i wonder if those cd's are made from organic cotton grown and picked with fair labor practices, sewn by people making a decent wage, washed with chemical free detergent in recycled water in a washer using power generated by solar energy???? otherwise the high horse attitude is annoying i agree.

you must not be using the $40 ones.

  • While we don't have any blowouts with our CDs (er...YET), I'm going to agree with you and say it was a little obnoxious to word it that way.  To say it would never happen is just asking for it.

I tend to think that blowouts aren't only a result of the diaper. Each child is different.  Some are explosive.  Others aren't.  We use disposables and DS hasn't had a blowout since he was about 4 mo. old.  It has nothing to do with his diapers.  We are lucky he doesn't have an "explosive personality" (so to speak).

  • I'll be honest and say that I saw that pic and thought to myself "Thank God I switched to CD."  You can flame me all you want (I really don't care).  I'm not saying leakage and blowouts *don't* happen *ever* with CD, but the mess is definitely more contained, and the blowouts are much less frequent... I saw blowout after blowout (even several over the course of a single day) of insane proportions until I switched DD out of disposables.  But now the mess is by and large in her pants.

  • Lol, honestly that post was pure comedy.  She knew what she was saying was judgy mcjudgerson, expected it to get flamed yet had to get it out in spite of the fact.  Some people just have that personality and like I said- to each their own. ;)

  • I don't think she meant it to be that she is better than anyone else. I took it as she was just saying that CD's tend to have less blowouts and she was being helpful. Maybe that's b/c I only CD and I thought the same thing when I saw the pic. We've never had a blowout either (except when father in law put on the diaper once and it was waaaaaaay too loose!). Either way, that pic was funny and it will be funny to look back on later and laugh.

I'm sorry but if you've never had a blow out in a CD before than you have NO way of telling if it were MORE contained.  CD or Disposable you don't have control over when/if and where the poop comes out.  Gah.

Never had a blow out that big in my cheap disposables, only up the back a few times and that was clue for me to go up a size.

I guess CD's kids sh!t don't stink?   *just kidding* Tehehehe.

Probably b/c people who use cloth are annoyed at the moms who fill up our landfills with diapers that will never decompose.  They work better and they don't leave literal tons of crap for our kids kids to deal with.

I cd, and I am not annoyed by those who use disposables. To each their own, and actually a lot of people who cd still use disposables when traveling, etc.

I have never had a blow out in a cd, but I would never say that it wouldn't or couldn't happen, KWIM?

What SuperCuteBenz said.  I actually use disposables a lot - at night, and whenever we leave the house.

  • I'm honestly not going to get into a debate about it.  Cloth diapers aren't for everyone- neither are disposables.  Plenty of people in this post said they were thinking along the same lines but didn't feel the need to point it out.
  • lmao. Not only that, but it's BS. I use cloth. And we've had blowouts. In the carseat, no less, among other places.

When they happen in cloth, it is almost always user error or a fit/quality issue... blowouts happen MUCH less often in cloth than in disposables

  • I had the same thought, but I would never have worded it like that. The one and only blowout we have ever had was when we used disposables once when we went out of town. It was epic. Not as epic as that one was, but bad, bad, bad.

Now that we have a penis-grabber, though, I am not so sure we won't be able to keep a fistful of poo out of Jack's mouth.

Do the research... cloth is better for the environment and your child, even if you can't have fair labor practices, chemical free detergent, using solar energy, etc... every little bit helps.  I think there are much snarkier attitudes that are coming out in response to Jenni than her comment that was made.

CDing is not for everyone, but I really do enjoy it. and well, if we are going to nitpick:

    - bamboo is available these days, better than organic cotton

    - yes organic cotton is available, so is unbleached cotton

    - not sure about the pickers, but there are tons of WAHMs who make their own CDs to sell and get paid decent wages

    - eco-friendly detergents are better for CDs and the environment than regular detergents

    - yes you use water to clean CDs, but you also use water to clean your clothes. your point? it takes water and chlorine and other chemicals to make disposables. and energy and fuel to drive the disposables to the store and energy and fuel to pick them up and drive home.

    - you can line dry if you're concerned about energy consumption

etc. etc. there are certainly ways to do CDing even more responsibly if you want to.

Well, I'm unsure where you got from my post that DD never blew out of a CD.  In fact, I said blowouts are less frequent (didn't say never ever).  But, meh.  We'll let that go.  Yes, I am pretty sure I can tell you messes are more contained in DD's CDs than they ever were in disposables.  Poop was everywhere.  Up the back, in the hair, down the leg, in the carseat, etc.  Similar poops in CDs stayed primarily - not completely, every single time... but primarily - in the diaper (which is what I meant by "by and large in her pants").

Believe me,, the sh!t stinks plenty, but since it goes in the toilet instead of the trash can, I only have to smell it once.  Wink

  • She was trying to help save you from cleaning up sh!t! All she said was that blowouts of that proportion are way less common in CDs. Jenni does not have a holier than thou attitude. If you knew her, though, you might know that she of all people does not deserve this.
