Checking your strings....you just stick your fingers up there and you should feel them instantly?
I've had my IUD 2 months and I haven't done this yet.

Yes, I realize I really need to do this. I asked my OB originally and she was like, yeah, just stick your fingers up there.
But how would you know if it's shifted or incorrectly positioned? I swear I can feel the strings during sex, though DH says he can't.
Re: My dumb question of the day (IUD-related)
I believe the point in checking is to see if they've gotten drastically shorter (the IUD is migrating too deep into the uterus), or drastically longer (it's heading to the cervix).
It isn't so much "is this right?" as it is "Is this the same as it was last time?"
Ooooh, in which case I really should check it to get a baseline then.
I know my NP said she wanted to leave my strings long after OB inserted them. She said when they're cut shorter they can sometimes curl up and that's when the guy would feel something during sex.
Precisely
mine got curled up & mine was in the left side of my cervix. looking back, i did have a lot of abdominal pain of my left side, particularly during my period. WHY oh why didn't i think to ask about it???
Mine is also curled up in my cervix but the DR. said that is quite common. It makes me nervous!
