I am just starting my day care search, but went first to a Montessori school a few minutes from my office. And I love it. In the "Infant house" there is the standard 1 teacher to 4 kids ratio, they do organic food, cloth diapers and gently discourage pacifiers. They also do not use bouncer chairs, walkers etc, and encourage mobility and gross motor skills development. All things I agree with (thus far). I went to a Montessori school myself, so all of their concepts are familiar.
Even though I have not been to any in-home centers I have always thought I would prefer a center for reasons of accountability, more structure, security, not to mention proximity to my office.
They offer an early-bird payment schedule and 4 or 5 day enrollment. I think budget-wise I can swing the $823 4-day program and have my MIL watch LO one day a week. This makes me feel so much better about going back to work (not like I had a choice though...) AAH! Who would have thought I could be excited about leaving my LO?
Re: Just toured a Montessori School I love
This. I am in the beginning stages of researching daycare costs, because DH is starting a job next month (after 14 months of unemployment). If it's $823 a week, we're screwed. He might as well not even work. LOL
