Pregnant after a Loss

When are you going on Maternity Leave?

I know this has been asked before, but quite honestly, maternity leave was too far away for me to even think about.  Now that I am with 8ish weeks left until baby day, I am rethinking when I am taking off.  I think my last day of work will be August 21, which is just shy of 38 weeks.  I figure this will be the only time in my life I will 1) not be working and not have a child (born) so I should savor it and prepare for baby to be here.

And then what makes me more nervous is that a girl in my prenatal yoga class just had her baby at 34 weeks!!!  A complete surprise.  So as much planning as I have in place, might not do me any good.  I wish we had maternity leave a month before EDD!  That would be nice.

EDIT:  I only get 6 weeks maternity leave, and two weeks for sick leave/vacation.  the rest I am planning on taking unpaid.  :-(  But this should not be an issue for work.  They are pretty great when it comes to family stuff and leave.

  • I'm going to work until I start contracting (barring any problems).

My SIL took time off starting the week of her due date and my nephew was 2 weeks late.  She really regretted losing 2-3 weeks of time with him.

  • I'm working as long as I possibly can. I'd rather have that extra time with the little one.

  • My goal is to stay working until the last possibel day do i have more time at home with the lo, however my Dr is going to write me a note for light duty at the end so I can do more of my management stuff and not so much patient care.
  • Pending any unforeseen complications, I plan on working til the end of my pregnancy. Maybe 38-39 weeks.

  • I am due Dec 9th and plan on starting my leave December 1st which actually really starts on Thanksgiving since the friday after turkey day we have off in our office.
  • TODAY!  We had a 1/2 day at work and I'm being induced Tuesday if he's not here by then...
  • If you can stop work at 38 weeks, I think that is perfect. I'm a teacher and was done working full days June 16th but then from the 17th-July9th was 1/2 days of summer school. For me, from 38 weeks on I had no notivation to be at work and was just really feeling uncomfortable and it was hard to get out of bed. I'm due on Monday and having some time to lay in bed all day, meet my girlfriends for lunch and really enjoy these last days has been nice.
  • I think it's great if you can get out early.  I'm due 9/14 and my last scheduled day at work is 9/13.  I get 12 weeks, so I don't want to lose a second of that time unless the baby is here.  I'm too scared to go out early and then be a week or two late.

I hope to work up til my due date so that I can have my full 12 weeks with the baby. If things get REALLY uncomfortable, I might take a week off before my due date, but I hope to not have to do that.

I sit at a desk all day anyway, and I work in a small office with all women - the way I look at it, I won't be expected to do much those last couple of weeks anyway since I will have had to get everyone up to date on my workload for just in case ahead of time, so I might as well be there and get paid as long as I can!

  • Working until the day my water breaks! Don't want to waste a day being home with the baby.
