Basal thermometers - 1/100th or 1/10th?

Do you use a basal thermometer that reads to the 1/100th or to the 1/10th?

I was so excited about charting my first month off the pill that I got one from CVS that reads to the 1/100th.  I had totally forgotten that the TCOYF book highly recommends getting a thermometer that does 1/10th b/c she feels the 1/100th can be ?confusing?.

Well after about 14 days of charting, my thermometer has gone bad.  I was wondering why since the first day of use it said ?Lo?.  I did not know what it meant at the time and kept using it, but now in retrospect I thought ?Duh, of course it meant a low battery!!? J

The past few mornings I have not been jotting down my temp after taking it, but would write it down after getting dressed.  I was thinking that it was funny that the past several days after hitting the ?recall temp? button on the thermometer, that my temp was always 97.7.  After I finally figured out that the thermometer is going bad, I tried to pull the battery out with no luck.  So I figure that it?s easier to just buy a new one.

All of that to say??I?m trying to decide if I?m going to exchange my thermometer (since it?s less than 2 weeks old) for a new one, or get a different brand.  If I get another brand I was wondering if I should get one to the 1/10th instead of the 1/100th.

Most digital themometers (if not all!) say Lo before you put them in your mouth. It does NOT mean low battery, it means it's ready to use. If you read the instructions, I'm sure you'll find the section where it will tell you how to know when the battery is low.

You don't need one that goes to 1/100. I've had both kinds and I preferred my 1/10 one. I have the Vicks one that lights up and I love it. It's done taking my temp in less that 10 seconds. My 1/100 one took at LEAST a minute.

I have a CVS one as well and it has said LO since day one. I don't think it means low battery. I like the one that measures to 1/100.

Also, they all say 97.7 when you turn them on. That is not the stored temp, You need to hold the button down and the stored one will pop up. GL!

I don't think you are using it correctly.  When I turn my thermometer on (from Walgreens) it say Lo.  It then starts to blink when it is ready for me to start temping.  It then beeps about 3.5min later when it is done.  You should read the instructions that came with it.

FYI-most people rec using the 100th because it shows more variance.  If your temp is 97.65, 97.67 and 97.69 three different days and only had one that goes to the 10th it would show 97.7 for all three days.

    Thanks ladies!

This morning my thermometer gave me a "Err" message and it wouldn't take my temp.

I use the walgreen's brand and it does say Lo, but it does not ever say 97.7 when I turn it on, it goes right to the last temp taken.  I prefer 1/100th because you won't get flat readings.

I also have the CVS one and have used it for about a month without trouble.

Lo doesn't mean low battery, just "low" temp to sdefault start. Similarly, if you run it under hot water to sterilize it a little, it will say 'high' until it cools down.

It gives a different sounding beep if its a bad reading or too low of a temp (not complete reading).

Read the instructions, and if it works tomorrow stick with it.
