I have wanted sushi sooo much during pg. I am scared that the board that they make the sushi on - is laced with raw fish juices....
Am I over reacting?
Yep.
I used to work an apprenticeship as a sushi chef, so I can speak from experience-- the rolling station and raw bars are cllleeeaaannnnn. Squeaky clean. And I only speak for the GOOD sushi bars (as in, not grocery store sushi, etc), but they get fish in daily. I used to scale and butcher the fish myself each and every day and it stayed packed on dry ice during shipping.
I understand the fear of sushi to pregnant women (and yes I'm aware that "fear" stems from being told by your doctor not to eat it) but speaking from personal experience I can tell you it's not that big of a deal. lol When you say "raw fish juice" it makes me think of a cutting board after raw chicken was cut on it, all pink and gross. haha But fresh fish typically doesnt emit a "juice" and the board is sanitized every hour, minimum, for health code standards anyway.
My fave sushi place makes a baked scallop roll that is to DIE for. I had it for dinner tuesday thinking it would satisfy my craving, but it just made me want more!
I don't know if this is normal, but instead of strong pregnancy cravings where I crave things I usually don't eat, I've been absolutely repulsed by foods I used to eat all the time. Unfortunately, this includes sushi and I miss it. Sushi, Italian dressing, onion rings and broccoli salad. This is quite unfortunate...
I went to my favorite Japanese place 2 days ago by myself because I was craving it so bad. I had miso soup and my crunchy rolls (shrimp tempura). It was soooooo good....
I had a spicy shrimp roll for lunch today. Delish!
(I will admit that it's not quite the same without being able to eat the raw stuff!)
Totally not the same without being able to eat the raw stuff! I've been inhaling cooked rolls and California rolls trying to compensate but it's just not the same.

How about a bottle of Saki? mmmm I keep seeing sushi pop up all over the place now... I knew I should have gone in February when I had the chance!
Lucky girls.
