Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Am I crazy?

My MIL just called me and left a message on the machiene saying they are going to the beach and I should come with DD ( she'll be 3 weeks on monday)  its 75 out today.  I dont think it approperate to have her at the beach at her age.  MIL is pissed and think i'm being crazy. She's still made I didnt want to bring DH to an amusement park at 1 1/2 weeks!   Am I being crazy or am I right to find these outtings a bit much for a baby under a month old?

Re: Am I crazy?

  • I know I need to update my ticker too btw sorry
  • You're not crazy - she is.... if you're not comfortable, don't do it....  you have to be really careful with the sun and newborns and you can't use sunblock until they are 6 months.

  • No way would I have taken DS to the beach at that age! Let her be mad, your the momma! You did good Yes
  • no i dont think its outrageous...you are still getting used to being a mommy!! i wasnt ready to stay overnight anywhere other than home until DD was almost 2 mos!! we ahve DH's fam trip to the beach next mo and i am nervous about that...she will be a little over 4 mo then and i know she  cant go into the water in the pool, wear sunscreen etc and she gets overheated so easily, i wont be able to go outside much (we did get her a baby cabana so i can be out there sometimes, but i know it will get hot for her...

  • My baby has already been to the beach twice.  IMO- as long as you have plenty of shade she'll be fine.  And she'll probably sleep the whole time in her seat.

  • Do what you feel comfortable with.

(and I jealous that it's only 75 degrees there!)

  • I'd have brought DD to the beach at 3 weeks. 75 might be a little cool, but she doesn't need to be in a bathing suit. But I have a little dome that I can put her in to keep her off the sand and out of the sun. Just my personal choice, though.

I guess it depends on who else is involved in these outings. Yeah, it's ridiculous for a bunch of adults who don't go on rides to go to an amusement park with a newborn. But if there are other kids and families involved then it makes sense. I've got lots of nieces and nephews so I would have taken my 1 1/2 week old if it was a group family trip. Just me and DH with DD? No, no point.

  • My family does this to me too...
Your were in the right that is to early for the beach or any kind of park.
MIL can get over herself and realize your momma NOT her.
