because I am completely clueless.
What should be the next course of action after doing the BD? My usual is go to the bathroom and "clean up", so to speak (sorry for the TMI). Obviously, that is not what you should do when TTC. I think I read somewhere on the bump that you should lay with your legs in the air. There's no way I could do that without laughing hysterically. Should I just lay in bed? For how long? Go about my normal business?
You don't have to share exactly what you do/did, but what have you heard to be the "norm".
Re: Weird, but I gotta ask (TMI)
Good to know!! Thanks ladies for answering... I was wondering if anyone would actually answer
LOL- we'll answer juuuuust about anything
LOL! ain't that the truth!
MC- did you get your Twilight fix today?
Ditto..for the one time I got pg.
The Blog
The third time I got pregnant, I got up to pee right after we had sex. I wouldn't really worry about hiking your booty up in the air, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt to simply lay there for a bit.
:-)
I actually asked my doctor this very question when we were TTC because of all the hardcore GPers who insisted you just HAD to lay down for x amt of time or elevate your butt.?
Just as I suspected, our OB said that the swimmers should know what their mission is and get where they need to go on their own (unless DH had motility issues), but if it would make me feel better to lay down for a while, then by all means, lay down. She strongly urged me to remember to get up and clean up before falling asleep though, and kind of chuckled when she said I don't need to hold my butt in the air.
Really though - do what you think feels right for you. I laid down for at least 20 minutes, because like Joyco said, I felt like I was giving the little guys a better chance.?
The O'Baby Blog
I just laid in bed for about 15 minutes. I think had it taken us longer to get a BFP I would have resorted to waiting longer or keeping my legs in the air as well but I'm with ya. I don't think I would be able to keep a straight face.
When I asked my OB, he said it's not necessary, but could help to tuck a pillow under your butt and give it 10 minutes or so. That is typically how long they have IUI patients lay there for, and that's when they're putting the stuff right into the ute, so I figure if it's beneficial for them, it couldn't hurt for me, too. I usually did the pillow thing, but didn't really bother with the whole legs in the air.
Be careful not to lay there too long, or fall asleep, though, b/c that's just asking for a raging UTI.

I did this as well. My thought was that it couldn't hurt so I might as well try it.
I was a dork and remained laying on my back in bed - would even put a pillow under my butt.
Like another PP said, I realize that this was really just to make me feel like I was doing everything I could... I'm sure it did not do a thing
In my bag: Canon 60D, 50mm 1.4, Tamron 28-75 2.8, 430exii
I thought I read somewhere that laying with your butt in the air doesn't accomplish anything.
I just got up to pee after (which is good to do bc it prevents UTIs).
Good luck!
