Taking home a furniture set - help please!

We are driving to the city (3 hours) to pick out baby furniture at Babies 'R Us. We want to set that comes together from Sorelle Tuscany - crib, dresser, wardrobe. Shipping alone would cost us almost $300 because of where we live, so we'd like to save that cost by bringing it back with us.

DH is thinking we aren't going to be able to fit all those pieces in our Kia Sorento (SUV). I don't know if they come boxed or put together already, or how big the boxes usually are.

If anyone has had their furniture delivered or picked it up themselves and remembers or has an idea, could you help us out? If they delivered - did they set the items up for you? If you bought in store, how big (approx) were the boxes? Do you think we could fit all 3 in the back of an SUV? And were they hard to put together once you got home if they weren't already together?

We got that exact crib and dresser (combo) set a few weeks ago, and there was no way it could have fit in our Nissan Murrano (also an SUV). ?We opted to have it delivered from the store, which wasn't too expensive compared to shipping - I think it was like $90 for delivery and $35 for set-up which we opted to do. ?I would maybe CALL the store first, and see how much it would cost to be delivered from their store. ?Otherwise, the shipping might be your best bet. ?Good luck!

I know sometimes even just the crib won't fit in the back of an SUV. Many people take the pieces out of the box. Have you thought of renting a U-Haul? You'd have to check the pricing, it may actually be more than $300 to rent one since you're traveling so far away...

Don't forget to weigh the cost of picking it up yourselves in a rented vehicle. It's always possible that you could rent a truck or van for a few hours and it be cheaper than the delivery cost as well.

BTW -- we absolutely LOVE it set up...it is beautiful! ?The only slight thing I noticed with it is that you have to be aware when you're buying your bedding set that the little ties will barely fit around the four corners of the crib. ?I just had to get creative with the ties, but it still looks great!

We borrowed our neighbors full size SUV to go pick up our BA crib and dresser. We had to take part of the crib out of the box to fit it in the back. The dresser barely made it in. I doubt three regular size pieces would fit in any SUV.

This is a good idea. Where I live, you can rent a full sized pick up truck for under $100/day. On the other hand, I recently bought a huge wardrobe (almost touches the ceiling and is about 4.5 feet wide) and brought it home in my Camry. It took some creativity fitting it in there, and we had to take the pieces out of the boxes, but it worked.

We couldnt fit just the crib in my BIL's suburban so I doubt it. We ended up renting a uhaul truck for the day and just picking up all the pieces. It cost around 45.00 but that was in the same city.

You could always rent a moving van or truck. We need a new desk so we can put the computer in the living room and not the babies room and we will have renting one to get it from ikea.
