Anyone else putting a TV in the nursery?

NOT for the baby.... for me.

DH mentioned this and I thought he was crazy, but we are going to put a small TV in the armoir for when I am nursing in there. This way if it's in the middle of the night he can still sleep in our room and I can be entertained and comfy while nursing in her room.

Re: Anyone else putting a TV in the nursery?

  • I just nursed down in the family room. We have a tri-level so it isn't that far of a walk. That way, I could tivo all my shows and have something to watch while I nursed.

Nope, wasn't planning on it.  Doesn't seem like a bad idea though!
  • we have a rocker recliner in our living room that I will be using...
With dd, I tried to nurse with the least amount of light/sound as possible so she would stay in a sleepy state, but I think that this baby will just go with the flow, since I'm used to having kids now.
  • we did...PIB. Its mainly for me and of course it was DHs idea. He also got LO a dvd player...lol..thats a bit much, but I dont see anything wrong with having a tv in there. I am the type, however that if i go without tv for long then i feel like sitting in the corner rocking back and forth...due to withdrawl..LOL! Lots of ladies are very much against it, so you may get some not nice responses....

  • If it's for you...I think it's fine. I don't have room for one in my nursery, not even a glider. So, TV will be in our bedroom right next door.

Really? I could understand if I said "yeah, if the kid cries we are just going to turn the tv on" lol. But I would imagine a lot of people nurse watching TV, especially in the beginning when you're doing it all the time. Most of my books have said to prop yourself in front of the TV and catch up on movies while you nurse.

  • IF I was BFing again I would in a heartbeat! I used to have to carry Stosh downstairs into the family room. I'm bottle feeding though so it won't take as long =)
  • We have a TV in the nursery (which is for us not LO). LO's room use to be the guest room, so we left the TV in there. I think it will be nice to have at some point.

  • We are definitely not putting one in ours.

  • I think it's a great idea. Trust me...it ges boring sitting in a quiet room nursing all the time. I will say that no matter how bored you are...skip the tv at night. The stimulation will interupt your LO's sleep (even if it's only on for a lil while). If you want them to sleep really well at night then go in and nurse with as little light and noise as possible (not counting a noise machine if you are going to use one) and put baby right back to bed.

    Otherwise I think it's a great idea :)

  • Wasnt planning on it, but when I'm sitting in the rocker I have a perfect view of the tv in the spare bedroom across the hall.
  • We put a tv in our baby's room. I dont see why it would be bad? Its for me when I am BFing and her later down the road.

Yeah, that's a good point about the middle of the night, but it will definitely be helpful especially when we have company over. I know that i won't mind nursing in front of my parents, but definitely not anyone on DH's side of the family. That would just be so weird to me.

  • i read that any kind of extra stimulation was bad for the baby, so i plan to nurse him in his room, which is the quietest in the house (w/ no tvs).
  • No TV, though I may watch movies on my laptop or get another portable DVD player.

  • I don't really want to baby to watch TV, and I think that if I put it on in the middle of the night it would wake me up too much. Plus I don't really like TV, so I am going to say no I don't think I would ever do that. But I have no clue how boring Bfing might be or how long it could take, so no judging!?
  • Honestly you will be so happy you did this. With DD in the beginning I was having a hard time staying awake during night feedings so when DH had to go back to work I would nurse in the living room while watching Roseanne. It helped tremendously and didnt make those night feedings so horrible.
  • We wont have a nursery for a few months (using the 2nd bedroom as a guestroom until family stops visiting).  Baby will be in our room.  Last time I was at my parents house I brought back my 15 year old 13" TV just for that reason.  Probably wont use it in the middle of the night, but we'll be having family visiting for months after the baby is born, and I don't want to nurse in front of my FIL....  So during the day I will probably nurse in our bedroom if there are people around, and the TV will be by entertainment at those times.
  • My sister did this. I wouldn't be opposed, but I was of the "nurse and put back to bed" as quickly as possible school. After we got the hang of it, it only took about 15 min and then we were both right back to sleep. Plus, DD will be in our room for the first few months and I don't want to wake up DH either.

  • Yes, we have one in the nursery for me and DH for feedings.  Once DS starts sleeping through the night, we'll take it out.

  • Yep. We left the TV that was already in there for now. I told DH I wanted it so I can watch TV in the middle of the nights if needed. We'll take it out after the night feedings are over with.

This is what I was thinking. From day one, I'd like to set the example and try to differeniate as much as possible between day and night. If I go in to feed him or change him at night, I don't plan on turning lights on or talking- just doing what needs to be done and getting him back to sleep!

  • Not a bad idea for your setup, but the glider is in the living room so I will be nursing in there with the tv on.

  • we only have a tv in the living room- I'm not into tvs in bedrooms (anyway, my house is tiny and the living romm is only 10 steps away from every other room).  My sister did this, though- and it was nice to have when feeding her DS- she took it out and put it in her room once he wasnt breastfeeding anymore.
