I think he's being ridiculous seeing as DS is only 6 weeks old... but I thought I'd ask you ladies anyway..
Did/does LO not always make eye contact with you at this age?
Our DS likes to consistently look over our shoulder or just past us when we are playing with him. He has been smiling in the last week, and has smiled directly at us a few times. But it seems he's always looking at something more interesting than us, off in the distance!!
Otherwise he's very vocal, alert, interested in his surrounds.
Please tell me DH is overreacting?!
Re: DH scared DS is autistic?!!
Like pp said, it's pretty normal at that age. Even when DS started smiling at us alot, he wouldn't maintain eye contact for very long. There are so many new things for them to see, especially as their vision gets better and they become more interested in their surroundings. DS still stares at the ceiling fan (he thinks it's hilarious, btw) and is always curious about lights. He makes this little grunting sound if I'm not looking at him, and when I do I get a big gummy smile. Don't worry, your LO will be loing staring at your face soon enough
Lovingly... not loing LOL

I'm reading the book "Healing and Preventing Autism", and it's a great guide as far as looking for the warning signs.
I agree with the above ladies (due to my experience as a nanny in college), but if you want a guide that gives some other specifics, the book's a great recommendation.
Worrying about it, though... I understand! The statistics are terrifying.

tell your DH to read up on child development.
Babys eyes are not fully focused nor can he fully see color.
