DH will be starting law school Fall 2010. Just wondering if anyone's DH is in law school or has been....wondering what I might be up against in terms of him being gone a lot.
DH and I are both lawyers. We didn't go to law school together and didn't meet til after law school.
The first year of law school is brutal and should be. So much rests on your performance/grades first year and that year is critical to getting a job post law school. The fall of 2nd year is also important because that is when everyone gets a job for the summer after 2nd year, which is another big step towards getting a great post-law school job.
Law school is probably even more intense and competitive now that the economy is so bad and the job market tight. I pulled plenty of all-nighters during law school and would pretty much study constantly my first year.
Ditto NYC. DH and I met studying for the NY Bar exam but we went to different law schools. The first years sucks. It just does--- and your DH will just have to put in a lot of time to get through it. Its also a rite of passage. It makes men out of boys and women out of girls. ;-) I never knew studying and stress as I did in law school. That being said, after the first year, things get much much better and it is all worth it in the end! :-)
My school was very social, though, and there was a school wide bar night every week. We went once or twice a month, and I was always glad that we went as a couple.
Stay at home mom to a house of boys: two amazing stepsons, 12 and 9, and our 4 year old.

DH wants to know which school this is!
University of Wisconsin. Our orientation commenced with the Dean tapping a keg. No kidding.

The first year is by far the worst. Things got a lot better for me about half way through the second year. Third year was cake since I already had a job offer. Then studying for the bar summer after third year was a nightmare.
All that said, law school was nothing compared to the stress of the actual work that comes after you're done. I've been a lawyer for 10 years now and often question the sanity of anyone pursuing this job. But it all depends on what area you go into

Ditto this. Luckily, I practice in a field where I work reasonable hours and can keep the stress to a minimum. Just be patient with your DH the first year because it is a huge change and a ton of work.

I think the second year is even worse.

Does he have any ideas where he is going/wants to go?
