Hi Everyone,
I have been exclusively breastfeeding my daughter since she was born three weeks ago. We've been using CDs (GMD prefolds and Thirsties covers) and have been doing really well. Unfortunately, we found out today (after two weeks of struggling with weight gain) that I am only producing about half the milk she needs. We will have to supplement with formula for at least a few weeks. Will this have an impact on my CDs and how I launder them? I've been throwing them in the pail (no dunking or scraping) and then washing them with Country Save (one cold rinse, then hot wash with the detergent) and drying them on the line. The stains have been bleaching out in the sun. How will formula poop be with my CDs? Thanks! I lurk here daily (I'm not much of a talker in real life, either) and find this board so helpful!
Re: Formula and CDs
The formula poop isn't water soluble, so you will probably have to get off as much as you can before sticking it in the wash. I haven't CDed with formula - just solids/BF, so I don't know the consistency, but I've found flushable liners to be a God send. Makes the whole poop disposal much easier. We use either imse vimse liners or the ones they sell at www.sunshinediapers.com - the imse vimse are a little smaller and a tad rougher - with a small baby you may be able to cut the ones at sunshine in 1/2 and get twice as many - hard to say.
I'm sure someone else will have more experience than that. I'm not sure about staining, etc. Your wash routine shouldn't have to change at all - after you scrape/etc of course.
Good luck - and congrats on your LO.
I formula feed and CD. We get about two really big poo's a day that need to be wiped with TP before putting in the pail. Otherwise, I just toss in the pail and wash as usual. Right now I have to wash daily though since I don't have a huge stash.
I use prefolds and BG's aio. I also line dry and don't have any stains. GL!
