Pregnant after a Loss

***Natural Birth Check-In***

This check-in is for ladies who are planning a natural birth, or are considering one.  I post it on Mondays and Thursdays.  If you'd like to join, post below with your EDD and answer the QOTD.  If you have questions you'd like to see asked, post those too and I'll use 'em in the future.  For the purposes of this check-in, a natural birth is defined as a med-free, naturally occurring birth.  (If you have to have an induction for medical reasons but are still planning to go med-free, this check in is for you, too!)

QOTD: Inspired by posts from yesterday - what are you planning to do re: vaccinations?

Re: ***Natural Birth Check-In***

  • We haven't decided yet.  We know that we will be doing a delayed vaccination schedule at the very least.  I am leaning towards no vaccines at all, but my husband is not on board with that at the moment, so we may end up doing delayed and selective.  I'm still researching - there is a lot of stuff out there to read!

  • Gosh....good question!!! ?We will vaccinate, but I don't know if we will do them all or delay etc....haven't decided. ?My best friends is totally against it and her 4 yr old is happy, healthy, and really smart! ?I don't know yet....I guess I am scared to not vaccinate at all but just haven't totally decided...

  • We vaccinated DD on an alternate schedule. I think we will probably vaccinate this baby on the normal schedule. I really trust my pedi.
  • I plan to do a lot more research.  I really don't know enough at this point, and don't have a pediatrician to speak to yet.  That will inform a lot of our decisions.

I know we will vaccinate at least against major debilitating disease.  I refuse to rely on herd immunity and would like to protect people who really need herd immunity because they don't respond to vaccines (my friend Babs is one, who caught measles and was in a dangerous situation because of that and a heart condition could have died because of a child who not vaccinated for trendy reasons).

There may be some vaccines that would be better to do on a delayed schedule or separately, or may be unnecessary, but I really want to hear from a pediatrician and do some more research before we make decisions.  I think there is a decent chance we vac on a regular schedule if we end up needing daycare.

  • Good question!  I have no idea what we'll do.  He will be vaccinated, it is just a matter of which ones and when.  What are some good resources people are using to study up on this?
  • May I be added? I would have loved to have gone natural with DS, but, having to be induced and being on 7 hours of pitocin proved otherwise... Hopefully, this child will decide to come out before I have to force it! I still need to do a lot of research, as my childbirthing class from DS was a bit of a joke. My EDD is 11/24.

QOTD: We will likely vaccinate on the recommended schedule- we did with DS, and he's fine. The only vaccine I really don't like is the chicken pox one- is chicken pox really that bad of a childhood disease to get?
