I am (supposed to buy it today) too- so help me too please? Dr actually said 1st choice Rice but that I can use oatmeal going back to constipated days scares me.
Yes! DS is waking 4+ times a night screaming and the pedi thinks it's reflux. He is also making this God awful sound like he is gasping for air while sleeping.
Long answer to yesssss it's for reflux. What do ya got for me????
ok so, what you need to do is put a tsp per 2 oz of formula in the bottle. for example, if you have a 6 oz bottle you can do 3 tsp of oatmeal/cereal..whatever you use. you'll also need to get faster flow nipples. when we started with cereal in the bottle we went up to level 2 nips and they worked fine. if the bottle is too thick, just put less oatmeal. also, you'll want to feed him somewhat upright and keep him upright for no less than 20 min after he eats. frequent burping during feeding helps too. i know you didn't ask about some of this, but i figured i'd throw it in there in case your pedi didn't tell you
i do it for DD for her reflux JenG...DD has the same symptoms and cried a lot...it has helped, but finding out how much formula to give with my TBS of rice (TBS recommended by my pedi) is the hardest part now...if i give her 6.5 oz of formula she has a tendency to vomit it later, but 5.5 is too little. so i think 6 is our magic #. We also had a hard time finding a nipple that worked for her, but she has a hyper gag reflex so its a little harder on DD than it would be for some babies to drink...but she doesnt choke on her own bile anymore or have backup much these days and she seems a lot happier!!! GL!! (we are using DR B bottles too which have seemed to help)
ETA: we put a TBS per 4 oz formula so we put in a heaping TBS in her bottles, and use a level 3 nip..we feed her upright, burp her every 1.5 oz or so (otherwise she screams if we do it the .5 oz recommended) and keep her upright for at least 20 min after feedings, and no fast mvmts when changing position to keep her acid to a minimum

Pedi wants me to start with only 1 tablespoon. Did you always have to keep P upright for at least 20 minutes or is this only with the oatmeal in the bottle? That's interesting. DS never spits up- she says he has the silent kind. I BF and he usually falls asleep while nursing. I guess I'll just hold him upright after nursing.

Really??? That's scary with the vomiting.
Pedi told me to use one tablespoon to 6 ounces, hoever DS never takes 6 ounces in a feeding. He only takes 4. I have Dr. Brown's bottles but I've been EBF so I haven't opened them yet. So they work well for you with a level 3 nipple? I have both of those things still in the packages and of course BRU won't take them back.

we'd do it before he was officially diagnosed bc i had a feeling he had it. try it with every feeding for a few days to see how it works. if he's ok after the bottles with the oatmeal then i wouldn't do it then. silent reflux is the worst! the thing about the silent reflux is they're not spitting up bc they're swallowing it back down bleh. so, i'd def try keeping him upright for a bit.

he'd do both. i really think he had a combination of silent reflux and regular reflux. sometimes he'd make these gurgle sounds and i could tell something was coming up, but then he'd swallow it back down. other times he'd just spit up all over the place.

yes the vomiting is scary to me. but DH has assuered me that she is ok...she cried today after doing it (i had her on my shoulder) so it got all over me and her and her nursery floor ...just remember that the cereal WILL expand in their little tummies so dont over feed them or you will be revisited with formula and cereal!!
