Are you planning on taking child birth class?
Have you taken them already?
What do you think of them?
I'm trying to figure out what classes to take my hospital offer so many. I was thinking about taking the breast feeding and infant care class but, wan't sure about the child birth class. Do you think it's necessary and if you took it do you think you go anything from it?
Re: Will you or have you taken child birth classes
After talking to my doc, I decided not to take a class. I am not trying to got med-free, so I don't see all that much of a point. My doc said that the nurses are great and it will just come as second nature.
I am, however, having a LC come in after the baby is born to help me with breastfeeding.

DH and I are taking the labor and childbirth class next Saturday, it's an all-day class that includes a tour of the birthing center. We've never done this before so I definitely wanted to take a class of some sort!
I don't think I'll take a breastfeeding class, though, since there will be lactation consultants on hand once the baby is here and I figure I can learn and ask questions then, plus I'll probably read a book about breastfeeding in the next couple of months.
When I was pregnant with my daughter I took a 5 week Childbirth Class, a breast feeding class, and an infant care class.
I though all of the classes were excellent. I didn't take them at a hospital, though I took the classes at an independant place in nyc called Real Birth. The childbirth class taught so much about unmedicated child birth, medicated birth, and c-sections. They covered everything and afterwards I felt completely informed. Although I had an epidural I was still in labor for 2 full days before I was admitted to the hospital. The class really prepared me for labor and also I felt very informed about what the nurses and doctors were talking about and I think I could make better decisions about choices in labor. My husband learned a lot, too so it was great having someone else who was informed and new what was going on. The class also talked about post pardum care.
I thought the newborn care and breast feeding classes were also helpful, but not as necessary as the class I took at Real Birth.
