3rd Trimester

Did anyone's insurance really help with the breast pump?

If so, I am jealous. That's all.

After waiting on hold for 27 minutes, they tell me no, it's not a neccessity. Boo to them!

Re: Did anyone's insurance really help with the breast pump?

  • My insurance covers the full cost of a breast pump!

  • Don't you just love calling the insurance company?

Ours actually does, but we have to pay the first $200 on one and they get the rest. I'm disappointed they don't give discounts or reimburse for baby classes though.

  • It really needs to be medically necessary for you to have one before insurance will cover it or for you to claim it on an FSA/deduct from your income taxes.q

  • Mine only covers it if your baby is more then 4 weeks premature.
  • Ours doesn't cover it! :/

  • Our insurance will cover the rental for up to one year to a certain dollar amount, but I'm not sure what that amount is - can't remember.
  • Does anyone know if it warrants a call to the insurance company or would they have that info on their website/in their paperwork?  I HATE being on hold and wasn't sure if I should bother making the call.
  • as I was told...my plan specifically excludes it. You would think that they would cover it, especially since so many women use it so they are able to continue pump once they come back to work.
  • Mine only will cover it if I go home before the baby does, and need to pump to take milk to the hospital...Boo...I'm jealous too!

  • Only if Baby is premature or has to stay in the hospital for another reason and I don't.

I searched and searched the paper work and online and couldn't find anything about them at all. That's why I ended up calling them.

  • Mine covers it with an Rx - and my OB will give me an Rx whether or not the baby is premature or in the NICU or not.   And to the pp I had to call the insurance folks, nothing on the website at all.

  • Mine covers it as Durable Medical Equipment! I was really shocked.
  • Mine covers 70%. ?I had to get a prescription from my OB and mail it in with my receipt, but I was allowed to purchase the pump from anywhere.

We will see if it actually works out how they say. ?

  • I also need an Rx from my doc.  I haven't asked her for one, though.  Don't know if she will do it or not.

  • Through work we have access to LifeWorks and I am able to get the Medela Pump In Style Advanced for only $110.  See if your work or husbands work offers anything like that.
  • Mine will cover it totally, but that only applies if you're going back to work FULL TIME.  BOO!!!
  • Mine covered 40%, medically necessary or not.

mine reiburses $50 for a pump, $50 for childbirth classes, and $100 for a lactation consultant.
  • My insurance covers the full cost.  I just need to get a prescription.
  • Insurance doesn't cover it, but I can get the cost reimbursed through my FSA.

  • My insurance just strated acovering some of the cost.  I get 40% off if I order through a certian company online.  One more thing I have to remember to do.
  • I just called mine.  They cover only if there is a need like the baby cant latch on or is premature.  Then I need a prescription.

  • When I was pregnant with DS, insurance said it was covered as durable medical equipment.  I just needed to buy it from a pre-approved place and get a prescription.  I did as required.  They lied and denied the claim.  It was not considered medically necessary even though I had a prescription and went through all the hoops as they requested.

  • My insurance covers the full cost (just won't cover hospital grade).  All I needed was a prescription stating a diagnosis of "pregnancy".  I was shocked but very pleased!
  • Mine covered half of the Medela PIS, in the end I only payed $125 for it.

  • Yes, my insurance covers it in full (it's considered durable medical equipment, which is covered 100%).  I'm very thankful to have such great coverage.  I will probably walk away from this entire pregnancy and L&D for maybe $20.
