Don't you just love calling the insurance company?
Ours actually does, but we have to pay the first $200 on one and they get the rest. I'm disappointed they don't give discounts or reimburse for baby classes though.
It really needs to be medically necessary for you to have one before insurance will cover it or for you to claim it on an FSA/deduct from your income taxes.q
Does anyone know if it warrants a call to the insurance company or would they have that info on their website/in their paperwork? I HATE being on hold and wasn't sure if I should bother making the call.
as I was told...my plan specifically excludes it. You would think that they would cover it, especially since so many women use it so they are able to continue pump once they come back to work.

I searched and searched the paper work and online and couldn't find anything about them at all. That's why I ended up calling them.
Mine covers it with an Rx - and my OB will give me an Rx whether or not the baby is premature or in the NICU or not. And to the pp I had to call the insurance folks, nothing on the website at all.

Through work we have access to LifeWorks and I am able to get the Medela Pump In Style Advanced for only $110. See if your work or husbands work offers anything like that.
My insurance just strated acovering some of the cost. I get 40% off if I order through a certian company online. One more thing I have to remember to do.
When I was pregnant with DS, insurance said it was covered as durable medical equipment. I just needed to buy it from a pre-approved place and get a prescription. I did as required. They lied and denied the claim. It was not considered medically necessary even though I had a prescription and went through all the hoops as they requested.
My insurance covers the full cost (just won't cover hospital grade). All I needed was a prescription stating a diagnosis of "pregnancy". I was shocked but very pleased!
Yes, my insurance covers it in full (it's considered durable medical equipment, which is covered 100%). I'm very thankful to have such great coverage. I will probably walk away from this entire pregnancy and L&D for maybe $20.

Mine covers 70%. ?I had to get a prescription from my OB and mail it in with my receipt, but I was allowed to purchase the pump from anywhere.
We will see if it actually works out how they say. ?
Not allowed under my FSA either. Boo!
