Need theme ideas for a summer party
We are kicking around the idea of having a pretty large summer party at our new(ish) house next month. DH would like the party to have a theme about the crappy economy since where we live is so heavily affected by it and so many of our friends and family have been affected.
I think it could be a cute idea in some ways. We were going to have games or tournaments and whoever won would get a prize. I thought a bottle of Boone's Farm or some other type of gag gift would be funny. I'm struggling with how to word the invite so it doesn't sound dumb. Any ideas? Any other ideas to incorporate this theme into the party or any other clever ideas for a different theme altogether?

I'll keep thinking, but off the top of my head I would go with a "Recession Chic" or "Recession Fun" type of theme. Your decor could be all repurposed stuff instead of buying new-- fill buckets and toys for center pieces. Your games could be twists of favorites but use stuff you already have around the house.
For food have box wine and canned beer. Do a build your own sandwich instead of catered or grilling.
Etc.

We are going to do a carnival sometime this summer. I made up some admit one tickets in word. We will have cotton candy, sno cones, hot dogs, lemonade. Then DH and BIL are going to make a bunch of the carnival games.

think it would be funny to do it on old, wrinkly paper or to reuse the back side of old paper, but I have no idea what to say on it in regards to a economy or recession theme.

How about making it a pink slip? I don't know if that'd be funny, but I might laugh.
Or say it's their bailout ticket and make it a bailout party.
