Am I the only one who's Dr. does the u/s?

All of my ultra sounds have been done by our doctor. I guess that is not the norm since most people seem to have a tech do it.

What happens for you??

Re: Am I the only one who's Dr. does the u/s?

  • my doctor is the only one who has done mine as well.

  • When I was pregnant with Layla, the Dr did all my u/s. ?

This time, he had a tech, but is now moving away. ?I'm not sure about my new Dr yet.. ?

  • I have had 1 with a tech, 2 with Dr. The "Big One" will be with a tech, they have a more detailed/high resolution machine apparently

  • I go to the Perinatal Center in the hospital for the u/s.  The tech does the u/s and then the doctor came in at the end and said a few things to us.  The doctor who came in after the tech was not 'my' doctor either.

  • My Dr. in NY did my first two ultrasounds which I thought was great.. but she had two opportunities to find my twins and didn't see them either time. We even asked if there were two in there because we knew that twins run in my family. My Dr. in FL has an U/S tech who is amazing and really patient and takes lots of time to get us the best pictures possible.

We ahve had like 6 ultrasounds now and the nurse practioner and both doctors rotate who does it. That way we get to know all of them

  • I always wondered if we were the only ones who had a separate u/s tech do them!
  • All mine have been done with Tech's. Maybe it depends what kind of office it is, mine has 4 ob's and 2 techs, I think they do it that way for time issues because they are always swamped.

  • My office has a high-risk OB who is trained specially in u/s do them. After she does the u/s (with a nurse watching for a second opinion), you see your OB. I like that there's always 2 OB's looking at them and a nurse.
  • I have only had one and the dr did it.  I assume for the big u/s he will do it too.

  • My OB does my ultrasounds at every visit, and she does them herself. So any questions or concerns she has get discussed right away.

I actually go to a Perinatal doctor for u/s (her office is next to my regular office). A tech does the u/s and then the Perinatal doctor comes in and discusses the u/s with us.

  • So far the tech has done my ultrasounds, I've had 3.  When I go at the end there will be a high risk doctor stopping in and checking on things.
  • I've always had a tech, not my doctor.
  • We have a tech do our u/s... I think the Dr only does it in an emergency or complicated situation.  The Dr does go over the ultrasound with us though.
  • My Dr does/ has done all of them except for the 20w U/S

  • Our doctor did the viability US at the beginning and a tech did the 20w.  When we have our next US (closer to the due date) to check the weight and such, that will be done by our doctor in the office.

  • I go to an imaging center.  My doctor only did one when he couldn't find the HB on the doppler, he wheeled in this little lap top looking thing that was actually a min-u/s machine.  That is all they have in office and it isn't great so they don't use it much.

  • my first 2 were done by my OB and then after that i had to go to an imaging place for the other (on top of seeing my OB each month)
  • Mine have been split, the midwife does them in office but for major things like the anatomy scan they have you go down the hall to the ultrasound tech because that machine is better.   My RE (in the same practice) did all of his own in office, or occasionally his PA would do them if he was in surgery or something.

  • A tech always does mine
  • My doc does all of them except the big 20 week one.

  • I've only had one done and my Dr did it.  I won't have another one until 20 weeks, but I'm assuming he'll be the one doing the u/s then as well.

  • my dr. does mine!   and i love that.  :)   very personal and no need to get comfy with anyone else :)

    This.

  • Nope mine have been done by the RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) that works for my doctor.
  • Well, my OBGYN has 4 doctors and they rotate. I have seen 2 of them but neither was my regualr OB, I will see her next. Basically they are all on call for one week at a time. They have you see all the doctors throughout your pregnancy so you are familiar with all of them b/c you are not guranteed to have your actual doctor deliver. I was really upset at my first appointment when another doctor came in. I almost cried...lol! The only other really good doctor in the area is a guy though and I just don't feel comfortable with that. They are all assistant professors at UF and Shands which is a great program.
  • In my regular ob's office, the doctor does them. ?

In my high-risk ob's office, the tech does them, but the nurse is usually watching too.?

  • My doc has always done mine.  The only time I've had a tech do it is when I have had to go in to the emergency room.
  • With DD - the ultrasound was in the OB office - I think it was a tech who did them. With this one I have to go to an actual diagnostic office to have mine done.

  • My doc does mine and I love it.  If they want to check something or are worried they take me right over to the U/S they have I don't have to wait to go to a tech.

First apt I had bleeding so they wanted an U/S eveything was fine and 2nd apt they couldn't find the heart beat so they cheated and did an U/S to make sure and everything was great.  they also did our 20 week U/S it was nice to have the doc explain everything to us and if they had of notice something wrong they would have been able to talk to us right there.
