Glucose test disaster (Dr's office issue)

(XP from SAL.. I'm still stewing :)

So I had my glucose test yesterday.  I have a 2.5 year old who I don't leave with others a lot but I got a babysitter.

Anyway my appt was 9:15 and I got there 9:10.  I asked the receptionist if I needed to wait or if I should take the drink right away.  She gave me a dumb look and I explained the whole thing and she said I should wait to be called.

10 am rolls around and I was so angry - I basically storm up to the desk and ask what is going on and how long it's going to be (I was ready to walk).  The girl at the front desk (really young and acted like an idiot) asked me again what I was there for and she would see what was going on.

So the nurse comes out and is like, "oh, I just had you down for bloodwork" and gets me the drink so I can begin my hour wait.  I seriously was angry.  I don't really care whose fault it was or even if I was there for "just bloodwork", it does not take 50 minutes.  The worst part was that I hadn't eaten when I normally eat first thing in the morning, so I was thirsty and starting to really feel awful.

(BTW my old Dr never had me wait that long, and, at this Drs, everyone who came in after me got called).  It is really frustrating!

  • I'm sorry you had to wait. Sometimes things happen like that in doctors offices, but I would have been irritated, too.

  • Sorry you had a bad experience. Too bad you didn't have your DD with you. I tend to find that Ellie is a really convenient excuse for getting out of things I don't want to do or getting my way in situations like that. If she had been with me when I did my test on Tuesday, I know that the receptionist at my doctor's office would have had all the sympathy for me in the world. Ellie is an ornery kid who gets into everything right now, and she runs - not walks - everywhere.
  • That really sucks - I used to work in a clinic and some of them will hire anyone and they don't pay attention to anything. It's frustrating for the patients and the other employees. You should make a complaint to your doctor. There should be a lot more extra attention to things like that when it concerns pregnant ladies.

  • My mom used to take me everywhere with her. ?I was SO BAD, especially at the doctor, that they would always take her in right away just to get us out of the office ASAP. ?LOL

I too worked the front desk (years ago) before becoming an Administrator and I agree with the comment that some physician offices simply hire anyone to man that post; it is the most important job in my opinion because they dictate clinic flow. I did not mean to sound rude but I just dealt with this Tuesday at my dental office and my cup truly has rtruly un over.

  • Ah, I'm sorry M!  I just had mine done this week, too.  Hopefully we both pass!

  • that is such a bummer, i had stupid office staff.  i have to go for my test soon, hopefully it will go smoothly.
  • Ugh, I feel for you!  When I was pg with DD1 the clinic that I went to screwed something up at EVERY appt!  The glucose testing was a fiasco for me, too!  I am SOOOOOOO happy with the clinic I go to now.  I WISH that I had gone there for DD1!  I'm sorry that you had to put up with that crap.  =(
