Finger nail clippers

Should I pack them in  them in my hospital bag? I have heard most hospitals either won't or can't cut lo's fingernails once they are born for some reason or other. Also anything else you can think of that I may need besides the obvious stuff? TIA

Re: Finger nail clippers

  • Not to be snarky, but why ask this here?  It's not like fingernail clippers take up much space in your hospital bag... Just take them!

  • I don't think you are supposed to cut their nails right away.  We tried using a file when we got home, but his nails were pretty soft.

  • We didn't and we wouldn't have needed it. I'm not sure if they cut his nails, but we were only there for 2 days and didn't need to worry about it till we got home. Their nails are so soft at first that they sometimes tear off on their own. If not, they're not strong enough to scratch very much. You should be fine without.

I'd bring movies. Camera, cell, baby book, sweat pants, tanks, slippers and a robe. Basic toiletries. Something for DH to do and pillows. I think that's all I used....

  • I don't think you need to take them. I still haven't cut DDs nails, they just aren't long enough.
  • This hospital wouldnt clip my LO's nails, they suggested filing them while they are so little so they dont get cut.
  • I don't think you'll miss fingernail clippers if you don't bring them. Definitely bring slippers ... if I didn't wear mine, my feet got so dirty and gross. That's the only thing I can think of.
  • I still bite DD's nails - never clipped them.  I loved having my robe at the hospital, but that was in the winter.
