Night Terrors??

Colin has been waking up SCREAMING the past few nights. This is not teething screaming or like anything he has ever done before. This is blood curdling screaming and it lasts 3 hrs. I thought he might be having a hard time with the surroundings or not being home but he just doesn't do this. Last night (night 3) NOTHING calmed him and he screamed himself to sleep in my lap, woke up the whole house and finally passed out from exhaustion. I am FRIED and exhausted, it is SOO sad to watch and he won't take a bottle or anything. He woke up every time I tried to put him down. I would do CIO but I don't feel like it's appropriate b.c of how upset he is. Anyway, is this consistent with night terrors? It seems at first like he is crying in his sleep then he sits straight up screaming bloody murder? Any tips on how to ease this? I feel so bad for my little guy, and it would be nice to sleep. Thanks for any info advice. We will be back in ATL tomorrow so I hope his own room helps things.?

We went through a phase of this after Colin turned 1.  I don't know that it was definitely night terrors, though I did read up on it.  For us, it seemed to be a combination of things:  big development changes, weaning, walking, etc. that all happened in a relatively short period of time.  He was inconsolable as well...we never used a bottle and rocking didn't work.  We ended up just going in, letting him know we were there and trying to console him.  More often than not, we'd just end up letting him scream, b/c nothing worked.  It was a rough period, I won't lie.  I think I've kind of blocked it out, actually, b/c I don't remember how long it ended up lasting before he got over it.   Good luck-they have a lot going on at this age and I don't think they can always process it.  Be consistent in your routine and hopefully he'll outgrow it soon.  Sorry I can't be of more help, but I do understand what you're going through!

  • This was how Gavin's Hand, Foot, and Mouth started out a couple weeks ago.  His sores were only in the mouth so I had no idea how much pain he was really in until we went to the Dr and she showed me the sores.  I would still take him to the Dr to be sure it's not an illness.  Gavin rarely runs a fever so the only way I know that he's sick is when he's not sleeping well.

  • Yeah Evie went through this too, the same time as Carrie says. ?Walking, weaning, etc. ? It was a huge leap for her and it was a very difficult time. ? But it wasn't middle of the night, it was going down for naps and bedtime. ? Blood curdling screams. ?

Sorry you are going through this. ? I think being home might help him a little bit. ?At least when he wakes at night he'll know his surroundings. ?

Have a good flight today. ?
