I just got back from my D&E and it honestly wasn't as easy (physically) as I expected. In the operating room I was so nervous because I've never had surgery before. The anesthesiologist gave me something in my IV for my nerves that calmed me down before the doctor was even there. Shortly after that he put something else in the IV that sedated me. I woke up with intense cramping, which the doctor told me to expect. The nurse gave me morphine to deal with the pain and some motrin as well (for inflammation I think). That helped take the edge off the cramps. The nurse then took me to recovery where DH was waiting. They gave me some crackers and gingerale because by this point I hadn't eaten in about 14 hours. The cramps were still bothering me so the nurse gave me two percocets. After I peed, which was by the way very painful thanks to the catheter they used during the surgery, I was discharged with a prescription for 600mg motrin and percocets. I picked up the prescriptions on the way home. It seriously hurt just to walk into the drugstore. As soon as I got home I went to sleep becauce I was feeling so dizzy and lightheaded (the anesthesiologist told me to expect this as a side effect of the sedation). I just woke up and the cramping has become very dull, just like normal period cramps. I think the pain meds are finally helping. I am still so heartbroken and can't stop thinking about how my baby is no longer inside me. The doctor told me to wait 2-3 menstrual cycles before trying again so we will take it from there. Thanks for reading this if you made it this far, I just had to get it off my chest.
