newb question, how many covers?

I'm starting my diaper stash early because it will be easier on our bank account, so far I have 15 prefolds and Two Thirsties duo's on the way.

I know I want 36 prefolds (about 3 days worth) for a newborn, but how many covers, I've read so many diffrent things on this. I've heard 1 cover for every 3 prefolds, I've heard a total of 4-6 will get you by...

So if I'm looking to do laundry every 2-3 days how many covers should I have?

4-6. You don't need to wash the cover every time, only if it gets poop on it. We had four and got by just fine, but we washed every two days at that stage.
