2nd Trimester

Clicky Poll: How much weight have you gained/lost?

Of course this is completely anonymous but I am curious how my fellow 2nd Trimester ladies are doing.  I feel so much bigger this time around but I don't think I have gained as much weight at the same time frame as with DS.[Poll]

  • You're going to get a huge range of responses, since so many people here are in very different weeks.
  • To date, I've lost between 13 and 16 pounds.  But I'm fat to begin with, so this is not a bad thing, so long as I am eating.  I am to gain 'as little as my body will allow me to gain.'

    Obviously me.

  • this is gonna be really hard to guage since 2nd tri is from 13-26 weeks. Answers will be all over the board! plus as much as we all love clicky polls, we hate weight posts equally, if not more.
  • Do yourself a favor and don't post questions like this ever again.
  • I was actually wondering the same thing since I've only gained 2 pounds so far. I really don't know if I should be gaining more or less, I'm just kind of listening to my body and I don't even notice being any hungrier then pre-preg. I eat less each time, but eat much more often.

Perhaps a chat with your OB could easily clear this up, no?

Why?  Based on the fact that people are responding they must have the same curiosity as me.  What is wrong with me voicing that curiosity?  If you don't like the question don't answer it.
  • I think if we learned anything today it is that NOT everyone hates weight posts and a fair number of people think they are helpful and/or warranted.

  • Stop with the weight posts.  If people haven't gained enough, they think something is wrong.  If they gained too much, they feel disgusting.  Seeing a post titled "how much weight have you gained" makes us all think about it and it's not something women in general like to think about.  What about the people on here that have personal issues with their weight and have been sick or hospitalized in the past?  They don't need this brought up.  If it's not something you would ask a non-pregnant woman, why do you think it's appropriate to ask a pregnant woman?

Well sure. but that's a reason why I'm on here. I do a lot of online research so I can own my healthcare. I'd call my doctor about something that I was worried about, but not something I wonder about it.

Stop with the weight posts.  If people haven't gained enough, they think something is wrong.

Then they should discuss this issue with their physician, who will either reassure them or work with them on an appropriate nutrition plan for their situation.

If they gained too much, they feel disgusting.

That is on the person, this question is an anonymous clicky poll.  There is no judgement in this post.  If someone feels that way - and it is understandable, as our bodies are not our own any longer - then perhaps they need to discuss their situation with their doctor.

Seeing a post titled "how much weight have you gained" makes us all think about it and it's not something women in general like to think about.

Meh, speak for yourself.  It's a valid pregnancy concern for many women.

What about the people on here that have personal issues with their weight and have been sick or hospitalized in the past? They don't need this brought up.

They can feel free to avoid posts that are clearly labelled and should continue/consider speaking with a professional regarding their specialized  situation.

I had 3 miscarriages before this pregnancy and I hate reading pregnancy loss posts because they scare me and worry me.  Does that mean other people should stop posting them?  Ridiculous.  I should simply avoid those posts which stress me out.

If it's not something you would ask a non-pregnant woman, why do you think it's appropriate to ask a pregnant woman?

Because weight gain is a big thing in pregnancy.  It is often used (mistakenly so imo) as an indicator of health in pregnancy.  As much as you and others may not like it, there are clearly many women who are reassured to see that they are on track with others.

It was an anonymous poll; hardly the same situation as capturing you in person and asking that question.  You are free to skip it or not answer it.  It's not like the post subject was at all unclear.

    Thank you!  I completely agree!

  • Gimme a break! People that don't like it don't have to read it. Seriously, some of you are being really idiotic.

That said, I like weight posts. Thanks for putting this up I was really curious how much the average women gains.

Because weight gain is a part of pregnancy, a big healthy part. You are supposed to pay attention to how much weight you are gaining during pregnancy, and to not gain too much or too little. If you have gained too much, its not healthy, if you have gained too little, its not healthy. That is a fact. Its not meant to throw anyone into an eating disorder, or make them feel bad.

Again, if you have a problem with weight posts, dont open.

I have only gained about 10lbs at 18 weeks which is better than I feel, but I think I was carry a little extra fluff from winter before anyway.  My Dr. seems to think its perfectly healthy but warned me to be careful not to gain to fast for the rest of my pregnancy.  He recommended I step on the scale once a day so that I'm paying attention.

And for those who hate weight posts - quit replying to them.  Stick out tongue

  • 130+ voted...I guess not everone hates weight posts...Confused

I personally go between losing one pound to gaining one pound so I put that I have not changed.  I'm sure it will catch up with me soon though.

  • Whats wrong with weight polls? If you don't like it don't click on it.  I think they are interesting and reassuring. Why is weight such a taboo topic?

  • Shouldve put some kind of time frame if you wanted better results for averages. It sounds like a lot of ppl are interested but like someone said 2nd tri is between 13 and 26 weeks basically, the weight fluctuations are all over :)

Ditto this. Didn't we have this same discussion earlier today? Weight gain is a huge topic in the 2nd Tri. 166 people have already answered the poll.

ETA: Sorry Easjer--I quoted your weight post originally, instead of this one.

Why don't people who hate the weight posts JUST IGNORE THEM. I think this post shows that a lot of us actually find the topic interesting. I wish there were more weight posts actually, but it seems like a lot of people are scared to death about posting anything weight related for fear of having others tell them that they shouldn't be posting because women hate this topic. It's simply not true for all of us. Each to their own.?

    I agree.

I'm almost done with 2nd tri, but I've gained 20lbs.  Someone who is just entering 2nd tri may have lost weight because of m/s.

I don't mind the weight posts...but jesus..it gets annoying that there's not a functioning search feature on here and the same questions get asked every 20 minutes.

  • I will be the one to explain why weight posts are not welcome on this board usually.  Personally, they don't bother me and the reason I said what I did before was to warn the person that they are likely to get flamed - not because it bothers me, but thanks for the "if you don't like it don't read it" responses...

I used to defend weight posts because it IS a valid health concern during pg.  However, it was explained to me as I will explain to you all.  Weight posts are not a valid means of calibrating your weight gain health.  Everyone gains and loses different amounts during different times of their pregnancy.  What weight posts do is worry people unnecessarily if their weight gain doesn't fall within the "average" range of what people respond here.   If you have concerns about your weight, just as if you had a concern about cramping, blood sugar levels, or anything else that might be a valid medical concern, you should be speaking to a medical professional about it - not a bunch of strangers on the internet.  There are too many pre-existing factors and personal factors that play into weight gain to get any sort of valid or useful information from this kind of post.

In short, I don't personally care if you post them, but in the future, be warned that there ARE some people who really don't like them.

  • Then let's all stop posting about everything, because ffs, everything is going to piss someone off, and everything should be discussed either with your caregiver or an expert.

I will continue to repeat that people need to effing get over it already, particularly when it is clearly labelled.  Just ignore what doesn't apply to you or what annoys you.

  • I like the "weight/gain/loss" posts and the "when did you start showing" posts.  They are interesting.  Why do people take the time to hate on them??  There are new members everyday and they might be interested too.  Why discourage any non-personally offensive posts?  Isn't this entire site about pregnancy and babies?  I would think you would filter and skip questions/posts you are not interested in, rather than attacking the poster.

To answer the post, I'm tall and a little overweight beforehand, so I've only gained 3 pounds so far.  I'm watching my weight close and stepping on the scale everyday.  I gained a ton of weight with my first pregnancy and it was horrible.  It's a slippery slope.  Go team healthy pregnancy!

  • On a side note....I wanted to kiss the customer service lady at Target today.

When I was getting my pictures, she asked how far along I was and when I told her I was 6 months, she gasped and exclaimed how cute and tiny I am. Made.my.day considering I've gained 20lbs.
