3rd Trimester

Am I the only one who didn't

run out and buy maternity clothes as soon as I got my BFP.

I lurk around 1st tri all the time and am amazed at how many of them are buying maternity clothes! I didn't buy mine until about 20-22 weeks. Had I bought mine in 1st Tri I could have worn small. I bought Mediums and will probably need a couple larges before this little guy comes.  I can't imagine buying them so early on. Maybe I was out of the norm. Indifferent

Re: Am I the only one who didn't

  • I didn't even look at them until my second tri. 1. they are ugly 2. I just really needed pants. Now I'm looking forward to packing them up!

  • I bought them at 21 weeks... well my dad bought them for me but I didn't need them until I was like 25 weeks.
  • I bought them halfway through my 2nd trimester. I didn't need to wear them until 30 weeks.
  • I got a pair of black mat pants around 12 weeks just because they were so much more comfortable for work. ?I didn't wear/need shirts until 25ish weeks.

"You're gonna miss this You're gonna want this back You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast..."
  • Nope I waited till late 2nd tri. I still wear my bella band to make my pants fit. I just had to buy some shirts to cover my belly, and some were bought this month, some last month. I hopefully won't have to buy anything else. I hate spending $ on clothes...that's sad..
  • I got TONS of hand me down clothes from friends so I didn't buy a thing.
  • I bought a few pairs of pants because I was so bloated my regular pants didn't fit. I only bought like 2 pairs. But that was around 8-11 weeks. Didn't need to get into the shirts until I really started showing around 17 weeks.
  • I didn't get them until around 24 weeks when I started needing them.

  • I bought them a peice or two at a time over the course of about six weeks starting around 15 weeks, although I really only started that early because ON was having a big sale.  But I didn't start wearing them until about 20 weeks, and then really only pants.  I didn't "need" them until probably 26/28 weeks.
  • Nope I didnt buy my first pants untill 16 weeks because at that time I was so tired of my pants being unbuttoned with a tank top holding them up lol. I did buy larger shirts but I made sure they were long that I could keep on wearing. Strecthy so far has been the best for me, this way after the baby is born the shirts wont look like a balloon on me!
  • Heck no! I only have two maternity pants as it is. Most of my pregnancy clothes consist of dresses that are empire waisted that I've worn before becoming pregnant.
  • My belly showing by 8 weeks by 10 weeks I had to have maturnity pants by 17 nothing from my normal clothes would really work.  I'm all belly though so that could be my problem

  • I did, but I needed them by 12-14 weeks.  Also, I bought a ton of summer stuff back in January that was on clearance.  I haven't *had* to buy anything for a long time.

  • The only thing I bought shortly after was new bras because my boobs grew like 2 cup sizes....

  • I didn't buy them until 18 weeks.

I didn't actually have to wear most of them until 20+.

  • I was more interested in buying baby clothes than maternity clothes...I waited till I needed them.
  • I bought only when I could not squeeze into any of my regular clothes.  I hate materinity clothes.

LOL I think that was my problem. Truthfully it still is. I could get way more baby stuff for the price of a maternity shirt.

  • If you are not in the norm, then neither am I. I loathe maternity clothes and instead bought the Bella Band. With the Bella Band I was able to stay in my pre-pregnancy jeans well into 27 weeks pregnant. Now that I am further along and it is hotter where I live I still can get away with wearing my pre-pregnancy capris and some maternity yoga pants. I did buy a few, flowy maternity tops around 20 weeks along to accommodate my larger chest size, but that's it. I just find maternity clothes on the average to be a) ugly, b) poorly constructed, and c) a waste of money IMHO.
  • I didn't buy til 2nd tri around 16 weeks. BUT, a lot were given to me by my friends who have used them

  • I bought some too early and regret it - except that my clothes stopped fitting after about 10 weeks because of the bloat from the IVF hormones.  I definitely needed different pants early on, but I got too many things and outgrew them.

I feel I can somewhat justify my over-eagerness since I went through so much to get my BFP!

  • I did buy mine at 11 weeks and bought non-maternity but bigger/looser clothing at like 8 weeks. I wasn't in full-time maternity until like 14/15 weeks, but I was actually using a few mat. items on weeks 11 and 12. It was worth it to be comfortable; I've never worn super tight clothing at any point in my life, and I didn't like how restrictive my other clothes were (I was running around with my jeans unbuttoned for like 3 weeks, lol).

Oh, and I wasn't like hanging out at Pea in the Pod - I bought a big batch off Craigslist and jumped at the opportunity b/c I didn't think I'd find someone with my size in maternity.

  • By 10-12 weeks NONE of my pants fit even though I was actually losing weight, so yes, I had to buy them early.  That said, I wish I would have realized that even though they tell you to buy your pre preg. size in them, what fits you early on, most likely won't fit later.  Everything exceptmy  Secret Belly Fit pants don't fit anymore.
  • i was well past 20 weeks when i went out and bought maternity clothes. i did however buy a bellyband somewhere between 12 and 15 weeks cause my pants wouldnt close anymore

I did! I usually wear skinny fit jeans so I grew out of them quickly. That and my boobs got big right away so I needed new bras. I kind of went on a maternity clothes shopping spree in Tri 1, but that's mostly because I live in a small town where the only place to shop for maternity is Target. We had taken a trip to Seattle so I jumped on the opportunity to buy a ton of stuff even though I didn't need it yet. I'm so glad I did too because now I have something to wear!

  • I'm really short, and stared to show early.  I don't remember exactly when I bought maternity cloths.  I want to say that it was either the very end of first tri, or the beginning of second.  I started with pants first...then moved my way to shirts.  Most of what I bought I can still wear though.  I have a couple tops that don't fit anymore....granted, they don't look the same as when I wasn't as huge as a house though!!!  Big Smile
  • I was like that too, rushed out and bought some (on sale though!) to accomodate my growing chest. But as time went on and I got a REAL belly I have not bought any maternity clothes, all my clothes are just in larger sizes from stores I normally shop in.

  • I had a bump at 12 weeks and had to buy a bella band for my pants... but i didnt buy shirts or anything til later.
  • Your super lucky. The first time I got pregnant I was only 7 weeks I was on a trip to Paris and I couldn't figure out why the hell I could not button any pants except my stretchy jeans. When I got home I took a test and figured it out. I had a lot of bloat. I weighed like 115 pounds so I guess just a little bloat went a long way. I went to mimi and got a cute kahki pair of maternity pants, NO ONE could tell thats what I was wearing, boot cut with pin stripes very faded and cute cargo pockets. I got them in navy too and wore them all the time. I would even get compliments on them. So when I got pregnant this time I put those on right away, SO COMFY. With just 3 or 4 pounds you can go from a size 2 to a 4 or 4 to a 6, doesn't take much. I felt weird for getting them so early but I was so much more comfortable. I'm also the type of person who could never stand wearing belts and buy underwear a size too big because it's more comfy.
  • I started getting them around 10-12 weeks, but that is because I had already gained some weight before getting pregnant, so my regular clothes were already borderline too tight before the BFP.
  • I didn't buy/wear maternity clothes until 21 weeks.
  • I didn't even start looking at them until beginning/middle of 2nd tri.  And even then I didn't wear them all the time.

I still remember the first time I wore a maternity shirt.  I put it on, looked down and in the mirror, and said "holy crap, I have boobs!"  They certainly help me in the dept!!
