Baby Cheeks?? WTF! vent

Ok, so I go to the lab weekly due to a clotting issue I have so I've gotten to know most of the people that work there, at least on a chat with them basis.

So today I went and while I was checking in the lab employee says "I see you've gotten your mommy cheeks haha".  I really didn't know what to say to that.  It would never cross my mind to comment on someone's appearance, especially a pregnant woman!

It especially irritated me because I've actually been losing weight during the last month or so because of my gestational diabetes.

Sheesh.

Re: Baby Cheeks?? WTF! vent

  • I might have said something like, "I see you have them too, how far along?!"

I hate when people comment on weight or how you're carrying...it is just rude.

    Sorry she said that. Meanie!

  • WTH are mommy cheeks?  Swollen face or the other cheeks?  My butt is definitely bigger but I don't think my face has changed at all..... I did get a swollen face with DS but I've never heard mommy cheeks.  I think lab employees should keep their comments to themselves.  That's just a weird thing to say.
  • jerks. ?that sucks :( ? i'm sure you don't have big cheeks.?
  • Well, I was sitting down so I assumed she meant my face ones... though my DS who was with me pointed out that maybe she meant my rear (I smacked him, but he's 18 y/o and 6'2" so I can do that).
  • Some people have no filter!  They don't even think about what they are saying and just let it fly out of their mouth!!  I am sure you look great!!
  • that would have hurt my feelings b/c I tend to gain weight in my face, so that's one of my fears during this pregnancy is that I will have a giant head!  I would have cried I think!
  • I have a LOOK I give people who say asshat things like that. Most of the time that is enough to scare them from ever saying anything like that again. Since they are the professional in the situation (given they are at work and you are the customer) I would also consider asking "How is that comment appropriate/how does that comment fit within your company's code of conduct? etc." type of thought.
  • I have never heard the term "mommy cheeks" ever.
  • I hate people who think they can make comments about your looks/weight just because you're pregnant!  I am sure you look great!

  • Some ppl have no clue - my OOT boss who I see once a month told me I must have gained a lot of weight because she could see it in my face.

I know how you feel.  I'm getting the fat cheeks but so far no one has said anything negative about them.  DH noticed because I didn't really have any cheeks to begin with and now I'm looking like the pillsbury doughgirl   I'm waiting for my ankles to turn into cankles.  Ahhh.. the joys of pregnancy!

  • Maybe she was talking about the "glow"?
  • my own grandmother has told me that I'm getting "chimpmunk cheeks" from early on.....oh well....
  • Well, don't be proud of yourself for losing weight, but throat punch that person the next time a comment like that is even THOUGHT.

I wasn't implying that I was "proud of myself" for losing weight.  Yes, I am overweight to begin with but I certainly know better than to diet when I am pregnant.  It's been a concern of mine and my doctor's since my diagnosis of GD.  I only commented on the weight loss in reference to the tech's comment that I was getting a fat face... meaning that since I'm losing weight, I doubt my face is fatter.

This is what my husband has been saying...

Poor guy, he just keeps telling me "your cheeks look fine hon"
