I've been curious about renting an at-home-doppler so that my husband and family can hear the baby's heartbeat whenever we'd like. However, this being my first pregnancy, I'm thinking perhaps I'm being paranoid - I just would like to know baby is OK in between doctor's appointments! X ) Have any of you rented these and are they worth it??
Re: At home dopplers worth it?
I asked my doc about this, and he said it can cause even more stress. becuase, sometimes, its hard to find the heartbeat. It was for me up until week 16.
I do not have a doppler, and I'm happy I do not have one.
It's been a huge stress reliever for me, and I am glad I purchased it. But yes, sometimes, we have a hard time finding the h/b. If you are going to get upset or if you can't just shrug, put it down and try again later, then don't - you'll only stress yourself out more.
I was worried I'd freak out, but I haven't. Having the monitor, which often catches the h/b even when we can't hear it clearly certainly helps with that. Chickie really doesn't like the doppler and swims away from it all.the.time. - so we tend to hear the h/b more in the background than anything.
Know your personality, I guess.

My Blog
I just received mine a few days ago and am very happy (purchased for $100 from ebay).
The heartbeat has been easy to find - granted I am 16 weeks. At most it has taken 1 minute.
If this was my first pregnancy I would not have bought one. But I have had three losses. I was finding I was confident things were fine for about 4 days after each appointment and then was slipping back into doubt...
I also have one and love it. When I am feeling nervous, I take a quick listen before getting into the shower just to be sure she is still beating away. It is a wonderful sound and so comforting.
