Hi!
I am just trying to get some different ideas on what our little boy could call my mom. My grandmothers are Mom Mom and Grandmom, so we are trying to avoid using them if possible. My dad will be pop or pop pop. My mom is a younger looking grandmother and is just having a hard time coming up with something for our LO to call her. Personally I think Mom Mom is fine, but her mom is mom mom, so she is trying to avoid that. She does not want anything that sounds old (lol, even though she IS going to be a grandmother!!!) like granny. I don't have IL's, so the issue is simply coming up with something for her. Any ideas/suggestions would be great! Thanks Ladies!
Re: What will your LO call your parents & IL's?
My parents: Nana and Pop
DH's parents: Mimi and Grandpa
DH's Grandmother: Gigi
My MIL is Grandma, my FIL is (shudder...) Paw Paw.
My sister started calling my dad Pops years ago, and it always stuck, and my mom did not want to be any "old lady" name, so we researched other cultures names and came up with "Noni" (pronounced nonny). She likes that one, and Noni and Pops sounds right together.
I guess I'm unoriginal since our LO will just use Grandma and Grandpa. I've never even heard of Mom Mom before. I guess the only other term I know of is Nana.
My ILs will be called by the Hindi name for grandma and grandpa, since my DH and his family is from India.
my mom - Grandy
my dad - who cares.. grandpa maybe..
my ?MIL - nanny (she put dibs on this from day one..)
my FIL - pop
I let them pick.. ?
Am I the only one who had 2 grandmas and 2 grandpas? (well, actually, only one grandpa b/c the other one passed away, but still)
My kid will call my mom and H's mom "grandma." He'll call my dad and H's dad "grandpa."
DH's parents already have 5 grandchildren and are 'Nana' & 'Poppy'
DH's aunt (never married) has the honorary title of 'Meema' (not sure how that came about).
My parents will be 'Grandma' and 'Grandpa'. My mom says "I'm old (66) and am fine with that." LOL.
My mom's mom is almost 92 and I've called her 'Mumma' since I was a baby. My cousin's children call her that, too. I hope she remains healthy so MY son will be able to as well (when he's talking).

My parents: Grandma and Grandpa Barnes
My ILs: Grandma and Grandpa Jacobs
The Greats: Great Grandma Barnes and Great Grandma Suzie
Pretty boring, I guess. But my mom and dad have 7 other grandchildren who call them grandma and grandpa, and DHs parents have been waiting for years to have a grandbaby and be called grandma and grandpa. They even told me they'd all but given up that DH would ever find someone. LOL Dh's older half brother is still a bachelor at 42, so that's why they worried.
I call my grandparents:
Nana and Grampy / Noni and Papa
My mom is NanaGram and my Dad is Pa
My sisters kids call her IL's Mimi and Pa
And my other sisters kids call's her IL's Nana T and Pa T (cause their last name starts with a T)
we let our parents pick their names. the choices are interesting to say the least haha. my mom picked the most normal one "nana," b/c she and my 2 younger sisters thought it sounded like a young grandma (she's only 51). my dad picked poppy (i think his grandpa was called "pappy"). my DH's mom picked "mima" (no idea why) and his dad picked "papaw."
My step-mom=MiMi. She isn't even 40 yet. She does NOT want to be called maw maw!!
My dad= He hasn't chosen anything yet but I do know he is thinking of names. Will probably end up going with Grandpa.
MIL=Maw Maw
FIL=Paw Paw
My Parents: Grandma & PaPa
DH's Parents: Nana & PawPaw
I envision my ILs being Grandma and Grandpa. My mom wants to be Oma because that is what she called her grandmother. Not sure what my stepdad wants, and my dad/stepmom are not in the picture right now.
I wanted my mom to be Gigi, but she picked Oma instead.
My Mom & Step Dad: Noni and Poppy
My Grandparents: Meme and Papa (I have always called them that)
DH Mom & Dad: Grandma and Grandpa
DH Grandmother: Grandma
my parents: Grandpa & Grandma (although my Mom teases that she wants to be called "Granny" -- she's stunning at 49 years young & being called that would be pretty ridiculous
)
DH's parents: Oma & Opa
my grandparents: Gramma & Grandpa too
DH's grandparents: Omi, ??(step-grandpa who's not German), Grandpa & Grandma or maybe Nana & Papa?
My parents will be Mimi and Papa because that is what my nephew already calls them. Not sure about IL's. I guess they can pick when the time comes
She's the first grand daughter on my side of the family so we dont' know what my parents will be called. I am the oldest grandchild so I named my grandparents Mema and Papa.... LO will get to call my parents whatever she wants to. My mom is young but my dad is older so who knows...I think my mom wants to be called Grammy
My IL's have 7 grandchildren already so their names are Nanna Max (or Banana Snax for the little grandkids that can't say it correctly) and Papa ***
my parents: nana & papi
dh parents: pappa bear & mamare; maw maw & paw paw
I call my grandpa g.p. and some names used in my family for grandma's are: tu tu, ya ya, g.g. (great grandma), and grammy
My IL's are Nonni and Pop Pop. I have no idea where they came up with these, but there are already 4 grandchildren on DH's side, so the names are already set.
My parents want to be Grandma and Grandpa. The only hard part to this is that my Grandma just passed away a few years ago. We were very close and she had a very big impact on my life, so it'll be strange to call someone else that name. Also, my Grandpa will probably become Grandpa Nat.
As of now we have:
My dad: Grumpy/Pop Pop My mom: ???
I started calling my dad Grumpy after we around out we were expecting and he suprisingly really liked it, but I don't know if it is something that will stick
MIL: Granny FIL: Papa
Thank You Everyone!!
My parents: Cheetah and Bobby
(my mother named herself -- not wanting to be "grandma". It's pretty darn cute to hear my nephew call her Cheetah. She also calls her grandbabies her "cheetah cubs".
DH Parents: Grandma and Grandpa
