2nd Trimester

Already????

Hey everyone!

I'm new to "The Bump" and I wanted to ask a question. Before I go on let me introduce myself: I'm Nat and I'm 21 weeks preggo with a boy due Nov. 15th. It's my first and my fiancee and I are super excited. This has been a rollercoaster so far because I can't seem to keep up with all of the changes my body is going through. It's awesome and scary all at the same time!

Anyhoo, here's my question: have any of you suffered swollen feet already? I know my diet probably sucks big time. I've been craving fries and chicken sandwiches alot and Subway as well. Anyhoo, I'm here at work just looking down at my feet and I noticed that they are soooo incredibly swollen it's weird. I've never ever had this problem til now, but I was under the impression that it happened in your third trimester. Anyone have any tips on what to do? I'm drinking water like crazy and I have pledged to end the fast food and subway craving no matter how bad it gets because I'm sure the salt is whats doing it. But anyone have any tips on what to do since I'm stuck here at work for god knows how long today?

Thanks in advance for all of your help and congrats to all of you!! Big Smile

Re: Already????

  • I started swelling at 12 weeks, and I still swell at least every few days. Drink tons of water, reduce the salt (seriously, the sodium intake is a BIG factor for me), and put your feet up. I have a trash can turned over on it's side under my desk and I put my feet on it during the day. Not even level with my bum, but the little bit of elevation helps.

Not sure how your work situation is, but if you stand alot try to take breaks to sit, and if you sit alot make sure you get up and walk around at least once an hour (if not once every 30 minutes).

    Hope that helps!

  • Im definitely swollen too.  I have started swimming laps again, and my fins don't fit my feet anymore. They work for the first 10 minutes or so, then I start getting cramps because they're too tight.

  •   Mine started swelling at 24 weeks.  My doctor said that it's a little early, but the weather has been really humid, and she said that makes it worse.  How's your blood pressure?  As long as your BP is normal, you get plenty of water, and your urine isn't showing protein, they say it's okay.  I was freaked out too!  It's worse at work since I'm a nurse, and am on my feet all day.  Just try to put them up when you can!  Also, if you have a sudden headache or vision change, or your pressure goes up, call the doctor immediately!
  • Wow....like I mentioned before, I didn't think it would begin til later. This is crazy! I'm assuming the 95 degree weather and humidity here dont help either. Sad I'm going to miss wearing my beautiful shoes that I thought I may just be able to wear til the end....wishful thinking! lol
