What did you wish you had but didn't...

when you came home from the hospital with your LO?  I swear I can't possibly have everything.  But I can't really think of anything either.

  • A glider chair/rocker of some sort. I hadn't planned on getting one, but they had a rocking chair in the hospital and it made it so much easier to feed her when I was in it.....so now we're trying to find one we like so we can get it. Also, I had forgotten to get a diaper pail. But DH and my mom went out the day after we came home and they bought one.

  • This was my best friend the first 3 days home from the hospital, worth every penny... We didn't plan on co-sleeping and after the first night home, I sent MIL to BRU to buy this.  The little machine makes a "womb sound" and we unhooked the machine part and put it in her crib, we still use it to put her to sleep every single night. It's seriously awesome.

What else... a vibrating bouncy chair, a swing (the kind that goes side to side is GREAT with newborns, we have the Fisher Price Little Lamb one and it's awesome), a few different kinds of bottles, just in case you have to formula feed, you never know if your baby will like the bottles or not, DD hated the ones we had on hand...

Also, have you watched Happiest Baby on the Block?  Those techniques were VERY helpful...

Infant tylenol, a thermometer, mylocin (for gas pains)...

These are good to have. The tylenol is nice if you are circumcising.

I skipped the snuggle nest and I just make sure he's away from pillows and blanket when we co-sleep.

    I love our miracle blankets.

  • LOL, we had a cloth diaper pail, but no trash can or hamper in the nursery.

We had everything else for DD. We didn't need anything other than wipes, a couple of onsies/sleepers, swaddle blankets, a thermometer, and bath soap. Oh, you'll also want a ton of washclothes. Target has a pack of 10 for $4... pick one or two up.

Most of what we needed to run out and get was for me: tylenol, ibuprofen, stool softener, and pads. Hospital sent me home with lanolin and soothies, but you'll want those, too. You'll also want nursing pads and a nursing tank (or just a maternity tank with shelf-bra or low-support sports bra, like I used). Also have quick food that you can eat one-handed, like granola bars.

  • Still wish I had a really nice rocker recliner with a high back so I can lean my head against it and fall asleep on those nights that he just will not sleep on his own. I never brought him to bed with us when he was small so one of these chairs would be so worth it. He had a rough night the other night and once again I was really wishing I had one. DH and I both decided we'll get one when we get PG with baby #2.

I also needed quite a bit for myself. Stool softner, long and large pads, cheap underwear (I wore only thongs before baby) Nursing bras, tanks and shirts, lots of clothing for me because nothing fit.

Baby wipes, one tub lasted like 2 days! We were constantly buying them and now buy by the case at Costco. Sleepers for the baby, their diapers leak a lot when they're little so you go through more clothing than you ever imagined and forget the cutsie clothing, just lots practical onesies and soft pants for around the house. We only dressed him up when we were going somewhere.

And food thats easy to eat one handed is key! I'd pack the house with granola bars, I really like the Odwalla and Luna bars. Trail mix is good too.
