I still haven't found one I like at a price that I'm willing to pay, but I see a lot of larger purses that could easily be used for a diaper bag. Anyone else plan on doing this?
I thought about getting a larger purse, just make sure it is washable. I had a really cute one I was going to use and my aunt reminded me baby bottles are going to be in there and might leak, get something washable.
We just used the ones from Enfamil and Similac, along with the free one that I got at the hospital. I only own one purse and only carry that because I end up carting around stuff for DD, so buying a diaper bag was pretty pointless for me. However, as a Mother's Day gift this year, my sister got me a canvas diaper bag from Eddie Bauer, which I really like.
I am. I got a large purse at Kenneth Cole and after I bought it, I noticed it has tons of pockets that would work well for a diaper bag. And the colors are neutral so my husband wouldn't mind using it as well.

Diaper bags are nice because they have little compartments and places to put bottles and such. Diaperbags.com has a great selection and I found them reasonable.
I also have yet to find one at price I am willing to pay. I thought about a large purse, but DH goes out with the baby alone and he would not be very happy with me. I just have to keep looking.
We bought one for our first DD and used it for approximately 30 seconds. We changed over to a Columbia backpack. Plenty of pockets and easier to carry with the two straps. We love it!
My friend bought this for me for when I want to use my purse as a diaper bag: https://pishposhmommy.com/store/. It's really cute and will mean there is a place for things in the purse.

I'm not into spending much $ on bags in general, let alone a diaper bag. But, I thought that it would probably be a necessity for 2 babies...so I got a code and spent $75 on a skip hop studio (which, IMO, looks like a purse). I figured it wasn't that bad of a price.
You can also try just using a backpack, I know a lot of people do that as well.

I have this diaper bag in the champagne color. I chose it because I can use it as my purse as well.
We did get a diaper bag, so I thought I'd pass along its stats to you...
Got it from BRU, $40, black/green colors, and has a good amount of storage space. We really like it since it's 100% neutral, but it had great reviews from other moms, if that's something you'd like to consider.

I love this! Great idea.
I am thinking about getting a large tote bag that is very similar to a diaper bag but isn't really a diaper bag. I have an extra changing pad from a diaper bag I didn't use. The bag even has those external side pockets so you could fit bottles and stuff.
For my first baby we had 2 styles of diaper bags plus a couple of the free ones from the formula companies - I never loved any of them. I think this time I might just use a regular backpack, esp since I'll also have stuff for my older DS. That's what we use now for trips to the zoo, parks, etc. and it works well, lots of big and small pockets, comfy to carry.
I'm convinced there is no "great" style of diaper bag, and you'll always be juggling a few different types, styles, sizes depending on the day's activities, babies' age, etc.
One Christmas my DH gave me an incredibly huge Coach tote bag that I can literally fit my 17inch laptop into. ?It has a ton of little compartments and such and I was thinking about using that as a diaper bag, especially if and when we were going somewhere that we needed to be dressed up for. I haven't really used it because its soo big and its tucked away under my bed for future use. ?
The reason I like diaper bags are because most of them have an insulated pouch for bottles and are waterproof inside.
Those built-in insulated pockets... yeah, they pretty much suck. You really can't just wipe them out if a bottle leaks, you have to wash the entire bag.
I highly recommend using a seperate insulated bottle bag which are cheap and available at BRU. Or sometimes you get them for free in a hospital diaperbag. You can wash them in the sink and their small enough they'll airdry overnight and you don't have to unload your whole diaperbag.
DD's diaper bag is a zip-top canvas tote from Land's End, not meant to be a diaper bag, but it is washable . My BFF used a regular backpack for her twins. Since DD's has her name embroidered on it, I'll probably get another bag for this baby, maybe a quilted one off of etsy.
If you do use a big purse, I recommend getting some cosmetic/travel type bags to help you organize stuff - or use bags that sheets come in, those zippered clear bags. Also, consider getting a wetbag from a cloth diaper store to let you contain any wet messes or at least carry a couple gallon ziplocs in there.
I'm just using a large, trendy hobo bag from Target- then if anything spills or cheerios get crusted to the inside, I don't care too much about it. I plan on using a few little bags inside for quick diaper change kit and a little clutch for my wallet, phone, etc. It worked with DS and I never had a spilled bottle in my bag..... knock on something fast.
We're doing this: My fiancee is getting his big diaper bag that looks like a regular laptop bag. We registered for at Babies R' Us. He chose it and loved it. Then I'm getting one of those big Coach bags that I can use as a laptop bag or carry on bag later on. I look at both as an investment. Plus, its an excuse for a new bag!
I had the Storksak Gigi last time and hated it. It was way too big. I bought a Coach classic tote and added a Skip Hop Pronto to it for any time I thought I would need to do a public diaper change. It worked great for us even when traveling.
I'm getting a diaper bag this time around though since I have an older toddler. I want to stay as organized with his stuff, my stuff, and baby's stuff as possible. I'm anal like that though.

Ditto on the insulated bags. You can buy a separate insulated bottle bag that you can toss in your purse and rinse out whenever you need to. My Storksak came with one so I used it in my purse.

Excellent thought! Thanks!
I'll definitely take a look!
