Question of the week:
We all know that everyone has an opinion/comment when they see a pregnant belly (or learn that you're expecting). What has been your most flattering comment, or most infuriating? Or both!

And as always, how are you feeling today?

Re: ~*~ Weekly PG Check In ~*~

  • Thanks for the welcome!  Hee hee.  We're so excited!  The funny thing about our BFP is ever since we got married MIL has been wanting us to have a baby.  She has told a certain friend this.  So when we told her we had got a BFP on Sunday night, she went and told her friend on Monday.  Hee hee.  A bit excited I think.  Then the friend called her back yesterday and said that she had started praying that we'd get a BFP.  She's not a very religious person so we were all a bit shocked when she mentioned this to her.  When MIL told me about this yesterday I got goosebumps and was about to crying.

I'm waiting for my appt with the nurse at RWG that's on the 20th but after hearing about S-A-R-A-H's ordeal I'm second guessing my choice in doctor.  So I may be looking into somebody else.  The computer generated EDD is 03.15.10.  So we'll see what the doctor says.  I'm sure it'll be pretty close to that date too.

QOTW:  Since I haven't started gaining weight yet nobody has made any comments about my belly yet.  Hee hee.  Although one of the guys in my office said I'd be a great mom.  He says I'm very nurturing.

Kiarox had her baby girl last week on July1!  I'm sure when she gets a chance she'll fill everyone in on the details...

    :-)

  •  Congrats to all of the BFP's!!  Congrats to HSartteach on your baby!  Congrats on the baby girl Taytee!

I can't even begin to explain my frustration with my work and their comments.  I'm just about 13 weeks and in the last week I have developed a bit of a pooch.  I personally love it!  Well most people at work had comments (it had been almost 2 weeks since they had seen me) about how I now have a belly but that it's cute.  Well for a couple of people they wanted to be jerks and said "You're BIG!" along with a disgusted look on her face.  She then said "How far along are you?" I responded with about 12 1/2 weeks.  "Well that's really big."  Along with another disgusted look.  I just thought it was rude and hurtful.  I'm a pretty small person to begin with so all I can think of is maybe they just aren't used to seeing me with some extra padding?  I've decided that from now on when someone asks at work about my pregnancy I'm going to tell them I'd prefer not to discuss it.  This was the icing on the cake.  (I work with a bunch of bitter women.)

I'm feeling really good.  I've gotten a lot of my energy back and now want to return to the human race.  We had our 12 week appt. last week and the baby looks great with a hb of 174.  After this appt. I think it may be a girl but who knows!

  • Congratulations to all the BFP's and HSartteach on her new baby boy!

QOTW: When I was about 25 weeks, I was getting a pedicure and the lady asked me how much weight I had gained. When I said "ummm enough" she said "ya, it looks like it"! OUCH. Then she proceeded to tell me she had two babies and only gained 10 lbs for each one. What a nice story Confused

Update: WOW! I can't believe how close to the top I am! In some ways it feels like I have been pg forever, but in some ways I can't believe it is almost time. Feeling miserable lately. I am hot, swollen, HUGE, tired and just generally bitchy. I am soooo ready for baby. Hopefully I can make it a few more weeks without killing someone Wink

Hey there, just wanted to say that I've only heard one side of the story from my insurance company so it's probably unfair of me to blame RWG at this point. I'm waiting to hear back from RWG, and like some pp said, it could be a problem with the lab. Also, I'm sure we have a different insurance plan (I have a PPO plan through BCBS), so I wouldn't compare my experience to yours. :) Overall, I've really enjoyed my experience so far with RWG - I especially like the ultrasound techs.

  • You know, I don't think anyone has commented on my belly, but I would say I don't look all that pregnant yet (unless I'm sporting maternity clothes). This weekend someone did say "hey, you're finally looking pregnant!" but I think it had more to do with what I was wearing.

I'm starting to get uncomfortable, but I think that has to do with working long hours right now. I'm sitting in my office chair from 8 am - 7 pm these days since we're in a crazy time at work now...and my lower back, butt, and abdomen are really starting to bother me. I'm going to try to convince work to get me a new chair to help support my growing body!

  • QQTW:  The best comment so far(though it has nothing to do with a belly) is that a few of our friends said they thought we were going to be great parents,  I don't know if it is just something they say to everyone,  but it meant alot to me.  The worst was my MIL telling me this past weekend while I was wearing a modest bikini that she "can't believe you're wearing that tiny thing."  I was not happy, especially since I'm self concious about what basically looks like fat right now,  plus the only time I took my shirt off was to put sunscreen on or get in the lake.  I don't have a one piece either(except my workout suit,  which is really tight) and don't plan on buying a maternity suit since I won't be PG much in the summer

I'm starting to feel better, I have good days and bad days.  Sunday(the day after the lake) was really bad,  I may be skipping it for the rest of the summer.  My poor DH is getting tired of taking care of me, and I can tell he's pretty stressed(we're also in the middle of a bathroom remodel) so hopefully I'll start to feel alot better soon

  • Yay BFPs! Congrats kairox and HSartteach for their new babes and Taytee for Team Pink!

QOTW: My mother has caused me some anger with a few comments. I don't know it it is just because she's my mother and I am more sensitive to what she has to say...or just because the comments really warrant an angry response. I started showing pretty early - around 12 weeks. I see my mom about twice a week, and every time I saw her in those first few months she always said how much bigger I had gotten since the last time she saw me...like 2 days before that. She would mention that I was going to be absolutely huge if I kept growing at that rate. Thanks, mom. Other than that, I really haven't gotten any belly comments that irked me.

Update: Feeling good. Trying to continue the workouts, but I've noticed recently how much slower I am on the treadmill/elliptical. We have our first shower coming up in a couple of weeks and I am so excited!

Good to hear.  I've heard mixed thing about RWG.  So I was kind of fence on sticking with them anyway.  We'll see I guess.

  • Congrats to the new mommies and the new mommies-to-be!

QOTW: My most infuriating comment (well I shouldn't say infuriating because I wasn't mad, just really offended/hurt) was someone who knows me well and knows how much I weighed prePG asking how much weight I had gained and then telling me "at this rate, you'll be pushing 200 by the time you deliver. I can't imagine gaining that much weight." Wow, um... Nice. Thanks. ?

Update: This week has been kinda rough in terms of my comfort level. I have not been sleeping well at all, my back has been very sore, and I feel like an old lady waddling around and pulling muscles doing regular things like closing the recliner and sitting up in bed. Seriously - closed the recliner with my legs yesterday and my left upper thigh/groin has been sore ever since... and sat up in bed this morning and hurt my shoulder. Seriously? Did I age 50 years overnight?? Other than that, Baby Girl is still rockin' and rollin' like crazy in there, and we have an appt this afternoon to check in on her. Less than 8 weeks left. Ack!?

  • Update: Feeling pretty good except I am still exhausted and by the end of the day my lower back is killing me. Second appointment is next Tuesday and I am excited/nervous!

QOTW: We haven't told many people, but everyone we have told so far is really excited so no rude comments yet. I was so glad to see how excited my parents, especially my dad, were about their first grandbaby.

Congrats to the new BFPs and babies and to Taytee on another baby girl!

I must just be overly sensitive, but it bothers me when people make something along the lines of these 2 opposite comments:

"Oh my gosh, you grew overnight! You're HUGE!"

    OR

"Wow, you're more than halfway, you need to start gaining, you look way too small!"

Neither are acceptable to me. Don't ever tell someone they're huge, first of all, but at the same time, it's equally offensive to me when someone tells me I haven't gained any weight or that I look like I'm not eating enough for my baby.

Yes, yes, I have gained just the right amount, actually - 15 lbs. Thanks for your scrutiny. Go away.

    :)

QOTW:  i haven't really had anyone say anything bad to me yet so i guess i'm lucky:)  i'm just starting to show pretty good so we'll see what the next few weeks bring:)

i've been feeling really good!!  we have our big US at 4pm this afternoon so we are really excited...i will post an update when we (hopefully) find out!

  • Congrats to the new mommies and BFPs!

QOTW: I'm not too sensitive, so I can laugh these off, but they are definitely in the never-say-that-to-a-pregnant-lady category.  In the parking garage I was taking the elevator up two flights and the guy riding with me said "don't want to carry all that extra weight up the stairs, huh?" and then laughed like we were bonding.  I also had another guy in the elevator at work (that I did not know) say "someone is going on leave soon" and I said "in two months" and he said - with his eyes bugging out - "TWO MONTHS??!!" as if I was so huge I would explode by that time.  And of course my boss refers to me having the baby as "popping" on a regular basis now.

Update: My sciatic is finally calming down and I feel almost human again.  If I could find a comfortable position to sleep in instead of waking up every couple of hours (or every 45 minutes, like last night), I'd actually be okay these last 5 weeks.

  • Congrats to the new mommies and BFPs, and to Taytee on her second member of Team Pink!

QOTW: My grandmother now only refers to me as "Fatty." Thanks, grandma. The best comment was when one of my coworkers found out I was pregnant, she just burst out with, "OMG, you're going to be the BEST mom!!!" It was so spontaneous and heartfelt it really meant a lot to me.

Update: had my 3-hr GD test this morning, so we'll see how that goes. Our childbirth classes started last night, and though I feel like we could have gotten more actual hardcore information (that's the driven student in me...haha), we did learn some interesting stuff and DH and I are both excited that this is kind of like the final countdown to getting our "game faces" on for the grand finale!

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • jkinslow - 9/21/09 (girl)

QOTW: Around 12 weeks, I told the majority of people I was pregnant at work (my close co-workers already knew).  One of my co-workers told me that it made sense because she thought I was looking a little wide!  I don't think she meant it as an insult, but I was upset!

  • Why am I so close to the top of this list???!!

Feeling fine. Dealing with gestational diabetes is kind of a pain. I really miss huge bowls of cereal, pizza and white rice. :)

qotw: Oh I have plenty of opinions about my belly, especially b/c my children will be so close in age. The most embarrassing is, "Didn't you remember how it happened the first time?" or something to that effect. Makes me turn red every time and it's so inappropriate that I don't know how to respond. Other than that, I have gotten the, "Are you sure you're not having twins?" comment -- niiice. And the "You're getting so big!!!" comment - said like it's a compliment... well it's not a compliment, people! :)

  • Congrats to all the new BFPs!  And to HSartteach on your baby boy and Taytee on finding out it's a girl!

QOTW: I can't think of anything flattering... but lately I get a lot of when are you due followed some version of "oh you're not as far along as I thought..." gee thanks!

Updates:  Doing good, I gained too much weight on our vacation though...  I seemt to be gaining more weight this time around than with Megan.

  • Congrats to all the new BFP's and babies and Taytee!

QOTW: I am pretty laid back so most comments roll off me but when I was pg with my first and working full time I got a lot of "are you sure you're not having twins" from my coworkers. I was big no doubt about it but who says that to someone?

Updates: had my 1hr glucose test this morning and 28 wk appointment.  My BP was through the roof so they did a retest on that a few minutes later and it was back to normal- even on the better side of low.  I got a stern warning from my OB that I need to "destress" my life or I could get put on bed rest- crap!!!  I told her that if the economy wasn't in the crapper and I could pay bills on our business that might help... Anyway, I hope you ladies all have a wonderful week!

  • ablouablou member

Congrats to the BFPs and all of the new babies!!!  Yay for babies!

QOTW: I haven't gotten any comments, really... but DH says that my skin is going (let's see if I can type the onomotopia) "whAAA whAAA whAAA"... like the sound of a lightsaber or something!  I don't see it, but I think it's very sweet of him.  Ever since my belly got here recently, I've been feeling a little large, and uncute.  DH stood next to me, and told me to poke his belly and to poke mine.  Then he asked if they felt different... and they totally did!  I'm brewin' somethin' in here...

Update: we had our 3rd appt last week.  No new u/s pics, but we heard the heartbeat, and that was cool.  I kinda wish that we had new pics, because I'm still feeling a little disconnected from LB.  It still feels like something is happening TO me, and not something that I'm DOING.  Also, the nausea has been replaced by splitting headaches.  Dr. prescribed me some Fioricet, and I took it last night, and it made me totally goofalicious.  Goofy, but with no headache.

  • QOTW: Most flattering is probably when people tell me I still look great for being 33 weeks pg with twins. I feel huge, and I feel that way simply because I was never this big with Rhett, so it's nice that other people don't see me as huge! The most annoying is probably when people who don't  know me say I look like I'm ready to pop. I understand that I do, but it just reminds me that I'm already huge and have a long way to go before I actually do get to that point of being ready!

I had an OB appointment today. I was desperate to finally see Dr. S after 5 weeks of not getting to see him. The ultrasounds have been estimating the babies to be huge - for example today it said they were in the 86th percentile for singletons at just shy of 5.5 pounds each. Indifferent He seems to be really accurate at estimating weights based on belly size, moreso than the ultrasounds, so I really wanted his take on it. He feels certain that they are indeed right at 5 pounds each and if we make it to full term they will be 7 pounds or bigger. Yikes! I know that is great news, but I'm so uncomfortable with ten pounds of baby that 14 or more is hard to imagine right now. Both babies are breech, so I have a c-section tentatively scheduled for August 14th. Of course, they could easily come before 38 weeks and Dr. S assured us there is still a possibility that they could turn before then, so we will see. It just seems crazy to know that we have just over a month at most before they will be here! Oh, not a contraction in sight and nothing going on with my cervix still. Yay!
