How many bibs do you actually need?!?!

I have like 20. I got most from my SIL then I got a lot more from my shower. What's with people's preoccupations with bibs!? I can't even return the ones from my shower because they didn't come with a gift receipt and one person actually tore off the tag.

  • We have quite a few but they are all different sizes.  Some came with outfits as well.  DH has this thing where he wants DS to always have a bib on as a 'fashion accessory'.... yeah, sometimes I wonder about him as well.

This is a good question. I have about 25 bibs. I'm hanging on to them because I really have no idea if they'll all come in handy or not.

  • I've been told you can never have enough bibs, regardless I think 20-25 of them is a good amount as we'll be doing laundry more frequently with a baby in the house!  :)

I probably have about a dozen.  I'm sure you will use them.

     True....sigh. I just hate excess.

  • I have about 25 bibs as well and still have not used them. DS is just now starting to drool but most of the bibs that we have came with those outfits and they dont fit him. They are too small. Bibs are not needed really until your LO starts to drool or you start solids... HTH!

  • It depends on the child, when my DD teethed I was going through at least five-six a day because of how much she slobbered and I also used about two a day for feedings.  I have a ton just because I actually needed them.  My friend has a DD a little older than mine and hardly ever slobbered while teething and did not need many.  She only needed them while eating.
  • We have about 20 as well. ?I figure I won't have to wash them as often? ?It seems like overkill, but I couldn't return them without gift receipts having no idea where they came from.

  • 20-25 is NOT too many, especially if you aren't doing laundry every day.  Babies drool and make a lot of messes.  And that is even before you start feeding them cereal and purees!  If you do laundry every day or every other day, you wouldn't need as many.
  • After my showers DH and I counted we had 65 bibs, I will never buy anyone a bib again.

  • I am curious too... I don't have too many mostly just bibs that match outfits.
  • I have one.  Better add that to my list!
  • Personally with DS, we didn't use very many bibs. My DS didn't have too much problem with spit up so I didn't actually use any for when he was first born (I would just tuck a spit cloth under his chin). When he started eating, I had maybe 4 or 5.

But, if you have one that spits up a lot or has reflux, you will want several obviously. Plus many women put them on LO when they are teething, I didn't.

But, there will be different sizes too so keep that in mind (when he is eating he will be 5-6 months so bigger bibs than what you probably have now)

Honestly, return most of them would be my suggestion.

  • It really just depends on your baby.  My daughter had reflux and spit up all.the.time.  We had a bib on her most of the time, so we went through a few a day.  I think we had about 30 bibs.

    LOL!

  • Well when we started feeding DD baby food, we used at least 3 a day (and they would be soaked and gross after each feeding)--so 20 might be okay.  Personally this time around, I'd like 2 of the rubber ones.  Easy clean up!
  • That was the only thing that we got way to many of. I stopped counting at 25 lol. Pretty much 0 were returnable.
  • I have heard they come in handy when LO is teething because they get really drooly.
  • Remember that babies drool A LOT and will likely have  bib on every waking moment...especially when they are teething.  You really can never have to many bibs.
