Closet Organizers

For those of you who have already started/finished their nursery; Did you buy a closet organizer for the closet? Or a shelving unit? If you did where did you find yours and about how much did you spend? Any good ideas on optimizing space in a closet that is about 8 feet wide and 3 feet deep?

Re: Closet Organizers

  • is installing a lower bar an option for you?

What all are you planning on storing in the closet?  Do you have a dresser and/or changing table for the nursery?

  • Actually, I put the changing table in the closet. ?I didn't use the changing table as a changing table, but more like shelves and we have more space in her room since I put the changing table in there. ?I did that for Layla, but we'll keep it that way for the new LO.?

You can get a bar that will hang on the top bar, but make a 2nd bar.. I hope that makes sense?? ? ?

  • I think we are going to buy an Easy Track System.  My inlaws have them installed in their closets and they provide a ton of space.  You buy by the parts at most hardware/home stores.  My MIL was able to install them on her own so it can't be that hard!
  • Because our house is pretty small (2 bedroom condo) and we were using the now what is going to the the nursery as a computer/storage room, my DH has gone out and has totally redone the shelving in all of the closets in the house. He went to Lowe's and got the white, wire mesh shelves (you can cut it to size in the store). They are made by Rubbermaid, there's different options you can do (like shelving the corners, etc). Anyway, DH said it was super easy, he did it all by himself, and they weren't that expensive at all.

Also, the closets in both of the bedrooms are really big, and we got the Closetmaid systems to reorganize them. We found a mix of systems we liked between Home Depot and Lowe's. Some are expensive, but for the most part it was pretty cheap, easy to install, and it looks so much better.

  • I bought the canvas shoe holders that velcro over the bar--it's the perfect size to hold little onesies and creates more space for not a lot of extra money.

Here's the one I found (and highly recommend--it's sturdier than I thought it'd be):

  • We're planning to put in a closet maid system with track shelving. I did one for my walk-in closet in our master and it turned out great. If you go to the closet maid website they let you design your own closet using their tool. It is really helpful.

  • The crib we are buying is a crib/changer unit with a built in clothes hamper (it's pretty cool and at Target). We definitely plan to and can put in a lower bar in the closet. Pretty much everything that is not immediately needed for baby will be stored in the closet. I plan on hanging a lot of the clothes and I haven't decided yet if I want to have an actual dresser in the nursery.

  • Here's a pic of DSs closet. I like the different bins for one becuase it is so simple to tell DH where things are. I will tell him the second bin on the bottom row. Anyway. I got the bin and wire racks at Target. I maybe spent $75 on everything and have extra bins that we use for toys.
