1st Trimester

I am always tired....

I am always tired... I have changed my sleep habit. Going to bed by 10-10:30 and up at 6:30... 30 min nap at lunch and 30 min nap in the evening. Is this normal? I want to be getting enough sleep for the baby. Should I be sleeping more???? It's my first baby so I don't really know for sure. Thank You!

being exhausted during your first tri is completely normal. I hit a wall at 3 pm and again at 8 pm to the point where I feel like I can barely keep my eyes open.

  • You are not alone! Gestating is hard work :)  Per my OB - one of the main reasons is that your veins are already dialating to accomodate the increased blood flow that you need while pregnant (not to mention you are already needing increased blood flow to your ute).  Since your body is still working to make more blood, your heart has to pump faster in the meantime.
  • You're getting more sleep then me. Naps at lunch and in the evening sound nice. I might have to start doing that. I try to be in bed by 9pm so that I can start to decompress from the day and maybe fall asleep before 10pm. I think the amount of sleep you are getting sounds about right. Just listen to your body, it will tell you when you've done enough. I was walking my dogs last night and We were doing kind of a long walk and I could feel my body slowing down in the middle of it. If you feel sleepy and its only 8pm then just go to bed. You have an excuse and use it to your advantage to get the rest that you need.
  • Just sleep when you are tired and stay up when you are not! works for me!

  • Totally normal to be wiped out during first tri.  If your body tells you it needs sleep - listen to it and take a nap!
  • I've been going to bed betwee 7:30 and 8:30 each night and getting up at 5:30AM.  On the weekends I will go to bed at this time and sleep until 7 or 8.  It feels really good!

  • Someone replied to one of my posts the other day with making a baby takes more energy than your significant other would be putting out working out at the gym.  No wonder we're so tired all the time! Smile
