Cramps in the middle of the night...Normal?

Ok...Before I start, it's my first pregnancy and I'm almost 6weeks.

I started having cramps in my 4th week but they were light and nothing to worry about. I read on the internet that this was normal. I feel a little tightness around my lower stomach and I feel bloated but nothing to worry about. Yesterday, I had no symptoms at all of being pregnant. I felt great. Then last night at around 3:30 in the morning I had severe cramps the worst I've felt so far. They lasted for about 20 minutes and it was most severe around my lower back.

 Does this sound normal??

  • everyone is different and I would ask your dr, but every night for the first 2 weeks of my pregnancy I had this.  They have since subsided.

FWIW, I am up almost AM at 2:30-3 with light cramps that turn into voracious hunger. Since I have no bleeding or anything like that, I'm not too worried about it.

I get them worse at night, too. I've been lying on the couch with a heating pad--that seems to help them subside. If nothing else, it relaxes me to a point where I can fall asleep!
  • I can't say for sure if it's normal, but I can tell you that pretty much the EXACT same thing happened to me.

At around 5 weeks, I started getting bad pain in the middle of the night. And at just the beginning of 6 weeks, I got it SO bad one night that I freaked out and went to the hospital. It was awful pain. And, like you, it would last for about 20 mins. then go away.

I had a blood test, urine test and u/s done and it all came back to show that I was okay. They figured it was probably the baby just implanting itself in there and the uterus stretching.

However, I would suggest you call your doctor just to be sure. The peace of mind was invaluable for me!

  • If you are worried, ask your doctor.  It sounds fine to me, but everyone is different and it is best to talk to your doctor.  Don't rely on internet search results.

Again, I'm sure you are fine, but just ask your doc.

  • Oh yeah, I also meant to say - I had no bleeding (which is why I thought I was fine). And I was!  Also - the pain stopped at the beginning of 7 weeks for me.
  • I haven't had any bleeding.
  • Thanks Guys...I'll call the doctor today to just make sure everything is fine.
  • I am having the same problem. I think it is just your uterus expanding and as long as you have no bleeding and it isn't constant then things are okay.
