A vent about maternity clothes

I am not going to lie or camouflage the truth. I am cheap when it comes to clothing. I shop sale and clearance racks at Penneys, Boscovs, and Kohls usually. So now that I am pregnant and need maternity clothes, I have gotten so incredibly pissed about the whole experience.
I've moved on and accepted that I am not really able to shop clearance maternity. I have given up on Burlington Coat Factory since 3 out of every 4 shirts I've bought fromthere had a hole in them somewhere that I didn't see until I wore it.
I have accepted that I will have to pay $20 for a decent shirt at Kohls.
What I am having a hard time accepting is that most clothing designers think I want horizontal stripes when I am pregnant, or ridiculously loud prints to make me look like I am wearing a mumu.
I am also seeing (although thankfully not experiencing too much) that if you are remotely not "store-directed- average sized" in any way (petite, tall, plus, etc.) you are pretty much SOL finding something in a store around here. I don't live in a remote area- what do others do when they live out in like... Nebraska and they don't have 3 malls 10 minutes from their house?

Yes, it's very frustrating. I don't understand why there aren't more maternity clothes (especially affordable ones) in the stores. Part of the reason may be that a lot of people use hand-me-downs from friends. A lot of my maternity clothes are hand-me-downs. Do you know anyone who doesn't need their maternity clothes anymore? You could also check out kids' consignment shops. We have one in our town that also sells maternity clothes.
My biggest pet peeve about the style of maternity clothes is that so many of the shirts are so low-cut. Has anyone else noticed this?! I have some shirts I've had to stop wearing as I got farther along in pregnancy because they became practically obscene!

I've had to stock up on tight fitting (maternity) tank tops in black, white, & brown just so I can wear about half of my tops for this very reason. It's a good thing I work in a place that keeps the temperature similar to a meat locker in the summer- I don't know what I would do in the heat wearing so many layers...

I just got 4 pairs of pants at Ross for $46!!
I've been doing some shopping at Macy's for loosely cut non-maternity shirts, and I'm still rockin' my t-shirts. I've just been looking for some clothing that is generously cut and appropriate for my figure.

I think it is strange that more stores don't have a bigger maternity section, I mean when else do people need an entire new wardrobe...
I have ordered some stuff online from Gap and Old Navy and am waiting for it to arrive. They had some good deals and I had a coupon, I just hope they fit. I have also found decently priced items at Motherhood Maternity (if you have an outlet mall near you, check to see if they have their outlet store, I went to one and found some really good deals-a suit jacket for $15!)

I'd suggest trying eBay and thrift stores... just when looking at stuff on eBay get the seller to give you specific dimensions of the items so that you can be sure they'll fit.
I totally agree about the low cut ness of the clothes. I don't want to show my big, veiny boobs. They hurt, and I'm wearing big ole protective bras! I can still fit into most of my tanks from before pregnancy (though they ride up).
I bought a couple dresses from Walmart at the beginning of the season. They were only 14 dollars, and luckily i picked up a few that are wearing well.
For pants, I did end up going to MM. I don't like their prices at all.
I did buy a few items from Old navy, and they are huge!! I haven't fit in them yet.
I'm hoping the fall will be mild. I really don't want to have to buy too much for the winter if I can lose the weight quickly!!
I absolutely know how you feel, I shop the same way, there's no way that I'm paying $80-$100 for jeans when I wasn't pregnant, much less when I?ll be wearing it for a few months!!! Its just ridiculous.
Luckily, in Miami we have Ross, Motherhood and other "Burlington Coat-like stores" that have reduced prices. I also like Old Navy even know you can only shop online...

It may be a little more than you usually spend, but Gap Maternity is having a great sale right now. For sale items, if you buy 4 or more items, you get 30% off your entire purchase. I bought 2 pairs of pants, a dress, a cardigan and a shirt this weekend and only spent $70. There pants are the best because they come in regular sizes... no small, medium or large. The stores that carry maternity are hard to find, but ours is in the back of our Baby Gap store in the mall.

Unfortunately, we have to internet shop and hope and pray the clothes we are ordering are going to fit. Although, I haven't bought too many clothes yet, I have started looking and there's not much of a selection in my area. I unfortunately live in rural Nebraska and the closest mall to me is 60 miles away...and even then, most stores don't carry maternity clothing.
